Update on the Honey Investigation

While I appreciate that the extension is just local js (no cloud service I assume) and having it not minified makes it easier to audit and “trust”, but don’t you see that this is just perpetuating a much bigger social issue with browser extensions? The whole reason we are in this “honey mess” is because browser extensions (a) exist, and (b) most people give them far too much permission to read and write to every site they visit. This is the core of the issue. Your investigation is first-class, but your platform is now sending a confusing message: “extensions are potentially highly dangerous; oh and here use my extension”. Can’t you see how you’re sending a mixed message when the greater social good is trying to help folks understand the risks of extensions generally? Like seriously, don’t use extensions! Like at all! If you must, make sure you know how it works or trust it for only a very select number of sites.

Hey Justin! Sorry you feel that way, it really wasn't the intention. To be clear, this is not some sort of side hustle that I'm trying to leverage off the back of my investigation. I built it to help bring transparency to affiliate marketing, and making this extension available to everyone seemed like a great way to do it. It makes no material difference to me whether a thousand people end up using it or a million. Its going to remain free and ad free forever. Either people will find it helpful or they won't – but obviously I hope they do! Hopefully this clears things up, and thanks for your support!

Whilst I appreciate your extension (and I will take a look later as it's 5am here) I think you just click baited me into watching an ad for your extension 🤣 I know you want to get traction on this and I'm sure it's an honest extension but it feels a bit underhanded to have 30 seconds on the honey investigation and the rest of the video as an ad (effectively).
