Chapter 78 - What level do I need to reach to evolve?

Suddenly, the monsters stopped. Many were leaving the city in the distance and walking towards me. Most of them were covered in human blood, which was a somewhat unpleasant sight.

Whether I like it or not, I'm still human inside.

'Is it all over?' Kumoko asked.

'I think so. I'm going over there; you can stay here if you want.' I said and started walking. But soon after, I turned back. 'Ferdinand, come with me. You know the cities, right? I want to know where people hide valuable things.'

"Yes, Master. I've never been in this city before, but I'll try to help."

'And you two, stay here with Hiiro.'

'Wait, I'll go with you! Please don't leave me here alone! I get nervous around so many monsters.'

'I doubt you get nervous. Since you want to go with me, let's all go together. Liu, redhead, let's all go.'

I called everyone, and we went to the city together. My monster army cleared the way, and after a few minutes, we were at the main gate. There were already many blood pools outside, but the inside was even worse.

'Yuck, look at all this blood. But where are the bodies? Did the monsters eat them down to the bones? Ah, there are some bodies over there.' Kumoko pointed excitedly at the main road ahead.

There were a few bodies strewn along the road. Most were men, but there were some women and even children. Fortunately, they didn't seem to have suffered much and were killed quickly.

'What did you ask them to do?'

'I asked them to bring me ingredients for us to use. I don't feel hungry, but I like to eat something good. And since we don't have spices, having them look for some for us was important.'

I left Kumoko behind and walked through the pools of blood while my monsters stared at me. I noticed that many of them had changed. Some were bigger and more menacing, too.

"Have they evolved?"

I checked the status of some of them, but it was the same as before. They were still the same despite being bigger and more threatening now. "Maybe it's a unique evolution that only happens with my familiars?"

There may be monsters in the dungeon that even gained consciousness. Monsters I turned into my familiars a long time ago.

'That worries me. What if they left the dungeon? Monsters with human-like consciousness can be dangerous. And since they didn't obey and follow me, they're somewhere else now.'

If they cause any trouble, it won't be traced back to me.

"Ugh, this is disgusting. There's so much blood and bodies everywhere. The smell of blood is also very strong. I hope they gather everything quickly so we can get out of here."

After all this, I can't wait to eat something tasty and well-seasoned and finally check my system to see what level I've reached after killing everyone in this city.

And to be sure, I opened my status to check. Unfortunately, I can't evolve yet. I'm already at level 32, but don't know what level I need to reach to evolve. Level 40?

Not even by killing all these people did I reach level 40, probably because most of them were civilians.
