Carole-Ann Ford was on holiday,so her scenes were filmed a week or so early and edited in - hence why there was less of her (and less screaming). The two stories between Edge of Destruction and The Aztecs were a 7 parter and a 6 parter; so there was plenty of time to develop the characters and have their relationships begin to change - hence why the Doctor has become wiser and more protective. In fact,he's basically become The Doctor as you know him. The music for this story was written by a young composer called Richard Rodney Bennett, who was eager to get his name recognised. He later went on to become one of the UK's leading film composers (Murder on the Orient Express; Nicholas and Alexandra;Four Weddings and a Funeral) and thereby far too expensive for Who to be able to hire him again! This story is only 4 parts, btw.
