Thanks, David! Yeah, I can definitely relate to Rose in several ways and I very much bought into their connection from the very first episode. So, it was definitely a tough one to watch.

It's interesting how your opinion of this story has changed. I like that you're open to that. And, yeah, I can definitely see where this story is really more about Rose/10 than anything else and that would probably be a little disappointing if you weren't invested in that like I was.

No spoilers, please! I don't have a problem with Rose, she did very well for the first companion. She was very relatable, which is important, and that's one reason this episode hits me right in the feels, every time.

I'm not going to lie I didn't love this two-parter when it aired. In fact I wrote a very sarcastic recap on my blog. I think the problem is if you're not invested in Rose-Doctor as a romantic couple then there are some big issues with the rest. The Dalek-Cybermen battle boils down to some trash talk and then them both conveniently being hoovered out of existence by the void. I hated the "Rose dies" fakeout - it was a big part of the publicity at the time. And the final 10-20minutes just felt like it was overly-sentimental. Buuut... I've mellowed a lot. Partly because I've re-watched with people who do like Rose-10. Partly I think because back then New Who was still quite new and having since watched all of New Who, focusing on relationships, especially Doctor-companion relationships, romantic or not, is just something the show does, more so than Classic. Anyway I like it a lot better now.
