Yeah, I wouldn't really expect otherwise, though. Given the time period at all (both for when the show was on and when the story took place).

I find it interesting that the Doctor isn't wrong when he remonstrates with Ian - it's just that,at this point,he lacks the diplomacy and experience of humanity to put his facts across sympathetically. The 'stone moment',however,is an interesting glimpse of what the First Doctor might be like if left to his own devices!

Hartnell is one of my favourite Doctors (despite his views as an actor), because at this point in time, he’s embryonic. The producers and writers are trying to establish what works and what doesn’t. Doctor Who (to me) thrives on when they work around limitations and succeed
