I'm glad it's not just me. I've been trying to reign in my annoyance/ridicule (and doing a poor job of it, I'm sure) because I'm sure it gets annoying, but it's just SO over the top. And, they portrayed her as being so intelligent in the first episode. Where did all that go???

Carole-Ann Ford felt the same way :D She resented the fact that Susan started off as being a hyper-intelligent character; and quickly degenerated into 'panicky screamer'. As you point out,the Daleks (aside from looking rather more metallic) have not fundamentally changed since their very first story. The 'big reveal' of the Dalek in the room in the Series 1 story (despite the fact that the episode title gave the game away!) was a great moment for longtime fans. The first sight of them in episode 2 of 'The Daleks' is a great moment for new fans :)
