I'll join the chorus, this is one of my favorite episodes in all of television. My goodness, it gets me every time right in the feels, and I cry like a baby. One thing I adore about this episode is the attention to detail. Not just the costumes and sets, but the facts of the real Pompadour. She really was an amazing, multi-talented woman who helped make Paris the cultural center of Europe. According to historical sources, it did rain on the day she died--that was a beautiful touch, and quite fitting to the mood.

This is one of my favourite episodes ever. When the lockdowns were, there were watchalongs and this episode was one where Steven Moffat and Sophia Myles watched it and tweeted synchronously on the scenes (the empty child and the doctor dances are also written by Moffat btw). Additionally, Moffat wrote a short addition to this episode which was then aired after this watchalong, created by the people in lockdown, so with very limited resources. At that time, it really created a bit of a wave on social media, revisiting this episode more than ten years after it aired. Its called "Doctor Who Lockdown, Pompadour". You might consider watching it.
