Oh, I definitely count Mickey as a companion. However, I don't personally consider this the first companion departure. I actually don't even consider it the second. I think those would have to be Adam and Captain Jack. Obviously not having seen their introduction in Classic Who yet (which I'm hoping to get back to once we have some more answers and certainty around our pup), I appreciated that it was an alternate timeline/universe. I got to see them without it really giving anything away about "our" Cybermen. It also gave more weight to Mickey choosing to stay. As for your last paragraph, I'll be sharing thoughts on that in the mid-series thoughts video on Friday. lol

That CyberSally scene was a tough one. So beautifully done. The Cybermen aren't my favorite villains or story so I'm not sure that I would listen to the audio drama, but I am curious to see their introduction in Classic Who. Maybe my interest in the audio drama will change after that. :)

Do you count Mickey as a companion? (I do - because he travelled with the Doctor in the Tardis). If so,this is your first companion departure :) A historic moment. The development of Mickey from 'cowardly and bumbling boyfriend' to 'saviour of humanity' is, imo, the best part of these early series of the revival; as it lent the show a sense of immediate continuity for the new viewers (who wouldn't have been able to properly appreciate all the fan-service Classic continuity stuff). Anyway,so much for that Tardis team! Back to 'adoring Rose' again. :/ The good thing about doing an 'alternative history' tale is that you can do fun stuff, like killing off characters;and doing 'origin' storylines that only apply in this other universe. As a result, this 'how the Cybermen began' does not conflict with the established continuity; as the back-story of the 'proper universe' Cybermen is unaffected. I've not listened to the BigFinish audio story - Spare Parts- that this was based on (because there are only so many hours in a day; and I'm a fan of other stuff as well!); but it presumably does nothing to upset its continuity, simply because this is an 'alternative'. I've always been irritated by the ease with which the necessary destruction takes place. Placing a mobile phone into a convenient port which just happens to be completely compatible with something developed in an alternative universe....yeah,right! Anyway,I guess that most people can overlook such stuff - it just rankles with me :D

End to a fantastic two parter. The Cybermen are my second favourite monster. This one totally keys into the body horror, when Pete cant recognise post Upgrade Jackie and the scene with CyberSally. I would HIGHLY recommend Spare Parts (the audio drama this took inspiration from) if you’re interested in seeing OUR universes Cyberman genesis. I do kinda like Jake as he has my accent ! Hahaha but yeah Cyber conversion is irreversible. I would love to know your thoughts on the Cybermen though and the horror behind them (I’m a horror nerd so I love the monsters that have a horrifying concept behind them), overall a great two parter and now you’ve been introduced to the second of the classic Doctor Who monsters :O
