You're right. She needs therapy, but then there would be no drama lol. If everyone acted like they were suppose to there would be no show. As long as the drama isn't contrived or overplayed (going back to the same stuff) and adds to the story, I'm good. I like they are giving Deb layers even if she's not so likeable now. At least they are writing for her. It also makes Nathan a more interesting character to have more insight on his parents. We now truly understand his reasoning for emancipation and need to marry so young. It makes his character more complex. Dan is a great character even if unlikeable for what he brings to the show, in particular to Nathan and Lucas' storylines. I think that's what they are doing with Deb.

"Morgan is absolutely correct that Nathan is using marriage to Haley as a way to have a family. "You're my family now." He wants that family that he feels like he can't have with Dan and Deb. Someone who will be with him no matter what. That just makes me sad. Obv he's not understanding what he's doing, so that is prob not a good reason to get married, but it's Nathan. I want my boy to be happy. I can see both sides." <---- I couldn't agree more. It's sweet and misguided and heartbreaking all at once. :( Honestly, your entire comment here was so well-said and perfect that I don't think I can really add anything to it. lol I agree with all of it. :)

Now that you mention all of this, I can definitely see it. Deb seemed like a more stable person in season 1 (at least the parts we saw) but, you're right. She had her moments and she had this in her. It makes sense too that she's seeing herself in their situation and is wanting to spare both of them from ending up where she is at the moment. But, she also needs to realize that's her shit to sort through and that she's just making things worse.

Which leads us to the Naley marriage. Morgan is absolutely correct that Nathan is using marriage to Haley as a way to have a family. "You're my family now." He wants that family that he feels like he can't have with Dan and Deb. Someone who will be with him no matter what. That just makes me sad. Obv he's not understanding what he's doing, so that is prob not a good reason to get married, but it's Nathan. I want my boy to be happy. I can see both sides. I do agree with Deb and her reasons (via her experience) that they got married too young. You should not be married before you know who you are and can you really know that at 16? Both Deb and Karen have talked about this subject because of the decisions they made when they were young. Becoming parents and in Deb's case a wife. It's obv Nathan is just now figuring out who he is and who he wants to become, but what about Haley. Even though she seems mature this is her first serious relationship and she just did the most un Haley thing she's ever done in her life. As far as the other side, I also agree with Nathan ("why can't forever start today"). He seems really committed to making it work. And her parents did approve. They know their daughter. Her parents speech was great. It's complicated and that's why I love it. By showing us both sides you know they are going to flesh this out. Will they become Dan and Deb or even Dan and Karen. Anyway, I like that they using the parents history as a tie in to Naley, it's got to be hard becoming your own person so young when you are tied to a husband and children. I do like that the main adults in OTH are just as important to the story. I think like season 1, season 2 is a set up season for who these characters become. I'm glad there were 9 seasons, so we had plenty of time to get to know these characters.

Deb has issues that were hinted at in the first season and they primarily stem from marrying too young. Well, marrying Dan lol. She doesn't hate Haley, but she hates her life and wishes she would have made different decisions. She doesn't want Nathan to ruin his life like she feels her life was ruined. Her pushing Nathan away by her actions isn't even all that new. Her not thinking about how her actions would affect Nathan has been a pattern. She had an affair and left Nathan with Dan to run off with the guy. Also, she took extended jobs from home to be away from Dan without seeming to think about Nathan. I definitely do not agree or justify her behavior, but it's not out of left field. Deb certainly has it in her to act like this. She's been somewhat selfish with Nathan in the past and put herself first, which is what happens when you're young. You're selfish. I'm not even blaming her for all of that. It makes sense considering the circumstances. I don't think they are trying to advocate for teenage pregnancy and marriage. The parents are being used to show the ramifications of their decision and really how they haven't become really good people as a result.
