I love the panicking Dalek - it's a characteristic the writers and actors would refine in all future appearances; but this early in the Dalek saga it's fun to see them getting emotional :D I love the way Chesterton warns Barbara of the foul water - and then washes his face and drinks it just a few moments later. This whole story was shot on a couple of small stages in west London - you can't help admiring the ambition of the production team for attempting to portray a jungle,a swamp, and a weird mutated creature. Lack of money and space didn't get in the way :) The Dalek plot (or is it sub-plot?) sort of makes sense; in that they mutated because of the neutron radiation - a radiation which kills the non mutants. Therefore their plan to completely irradiate the whole of Skaro by detonating a second bomb, and thus wipe out theThals, has a certain logic. It's lucky for the Thals that the Tardis Team lost their fluid link in the city - otherwise the Thals would have been doomed. There are very few Classic serials/arcs as long as this one. I believe it was originally intended to be six parts, but the following story encountered problems - so the writer was told to add another episode (the 'jumping over a small gap' plotline);while the producers shortened the following story to a two-parter.
