I'm REALLY surprised I've not heard about this movie until now. But, it definitely doesn't really seem like anything I need to check out anytime soon. lol

As a way of generating doom-laden atmosphere and creating a sense of unease, this single episode is one of the most effective so far in the First Doctor era. This is the story that was turned into a slightly bigger budget cinema movie in 1965 - although NOT to be confused with the canonical "Doctor Who TVMovie" from much much later! This 1965 movie was called "Dalek Invasion Earth 2150 AD"; and starred Peter Cushing as 'Doctor Who',a human scientist (whose surname just coincidentally happens to be "Who"). It's not part of Doctor Who canon; and it commits the sin of turning much of this story into a comedy - but there's a certain entertainment factor to be had. There may well be people who recommend you watch it sometime - but it's one of those things you should probably best put on hold until you've watched absolutely everything Who related, and are in need of more reaction material. ....so not for a while, then :)

It was a big WTF moment for me as well! lol That makes sense about the cloth. I wasn't thinking about the water being cold and them using it as a substitute for ice. Thanks for that!

I don't I've ever related more to Susan than I did in that moment. HAHA Yeah, it was a little bit of a confusing episode because I knew the name meant Daleks would be involved, but it definitely gave me a sense of unease. I think the characters acting so nonchalant about everything most of the time just added to it. I was panicking more because they weren't panicking enough. lol

This was the first proper time they did an outdoor production. I think the logic behind using the cloth for water was to use something cool to bring down the swelling of the ankle Apparently the Dalek slowly coming out of the water was a big WTF moment for audiences at the time.

This could well be my favourite classic who Dalek story. To be fair I haven't seen all of classic who (yet) but I really like this one. I think the sense of tension and unease that grows steadily throughout the episode is really well done. Also, like you, I love the exchange: "And what do you do?", Susan: "I eat" - love it.
