harry lloyd, the actor who plays banes, is actually the real life great-great-great grandson of charles dickens, who was obviously also a doctor who character. and considering how good an actor harry lloyd is, it's fair to say that talent runs in the family.

2022-08-28 19:00:04 +0000 UTCI'm sure you've looked it up by now but Tim played by Thomas Sangster, was in Love Actually, he's the kid who learns the drums to impress the girl he likes. He was also in Game of Thrones as was Harry Lloyd, who plays Baines here. And yes he is very very very good at being creepy. One of the things I love about this two-parter is the way "The Family" are made so creepy and menacing and it's all acting. A head tilt, a look, an omnious sniff. There are lots of nods to classic who too. From the drawings in the journal, including some classic doctors, to the mention of Gallifrey - "is that in Ireland?" which was a joke from classic. But you don't need to know any of that to enjoy this one. And others have already pointed out that Verity and Sidney are a nod to Dr Who's original producers. Lots more I'd love to say, the two parts as a whole are my favourite episode of S3, but I'll wait until you've seen the rest.
