Honestly, it's been so long since I watched this one that I didn't even remember what happened in it and had to go look it up. lol

I'm glad you were so into the romance as it might be the most real and genuine "will they, won't they" for a pair of introverts

James Brooks

Call it sacrilege, but (for me) this has more re-watchability than "Vincent" (which was just too Richard Curtis). The alieness of the 11th Doctor comes across hilariously; the love story is funny and sweet; and even Corden (whose TV success is a mystery to me) is effective and likeable. One of my favourites of Season 5.

Ian Smith

Just about everyone I've seen reacting to this episode is weirded out by that painting in the hallway behind Craig and Sophie. It turns out to be of no importance to the episode, just a bizarre bit of background detail, but it certainly draws the eye (which makes it something of a faux pas on the part of the set design department, I suppose). This episode has quite a different feel to anything before it -- basically a domestic sitcom which the Doctor seems to have wandered into from outside. The writer, Gareth Roberts, is here reusing a story which he wrote for the comic strip in Doctor Who Magazine some years before during the David Tennant era. That story saw the Tenth Doctor (like the Eleventh here) being stranded on Earth due to a random TARDIS malfunction, and inviting himself to stay with Mickey for a few days until the problem was sorted out, leading to lots of fish-out-of-water comedy sequences. Amusingly, one of them was the football game, which is carried over into the TV episode and allows Matt Smith to show off his skills. It's interesting how Craig momentarily seems to sour on the Doctor at the way he simply takes over the game; in a more serious episode that could have been explored more deeply, but since this is purely a comedy the conflict is gone again by the next scene.

matt smith was going to be a pro footballer when he suffered back injuries and went towards acting

Matt Smith was on the way to becoming a professional footballer until he got a major injury that put an end to it, so the football part was a bit of a nod to that.
