WATCH ALONG | DOCTOR WHO | A Christmas Carol

Comments

Best Christmas special by far imo. Certainly best of the ones that had come to this point.

James Brooks

Like others, I watch this one every year. So beautiful!

Thomas Midena

Such a good episode, has everything a British Christmas story needs. Humour, sadness, magic, love story, abd a reflection on humanity. Really beautifully done. I think its one of the best if not the best of the specials. It encapsulates this eras "fairy tale" style.

Richard Austen

Such a beautiful episode, I rewatch it every Christmas eve! I love how great Eleven is with children, we saw it with young Amelia and with the young boy in the Silurian Two Parter. Now with Kazran, he's so sweet with them more so than any Doctor I can think of. Katherine Jenkins played Abigail, she's not an actress but an operatic singer! So yes that was really her singing, she is phenomenally talented! And also I thought she was great in the episode despite not being someone known for acting I'm so excited to be on this journey through Elevens era with you! I rewatch it all the time it's so nice seeing someone experience it for the first time❤

Abigail was played by Katherine Jenkins. She's a Welsh singer and, yes, that was her singing. I think this was her first acting role.

Darren Williams

Abigail was played by Katherine Jenkins, a Welsh mezzo-soprano who was (and is) well known as a classical singer, but who had never acted before. She did indeed sing both the hymn "In the Bleak Midwinter" and the piece specially written by the show's composer, Murray Gold, at the end. I think this is an exquisite episode, full of the "fairytale" ambience that Steven Moffat brought to Doctor Who in his first year as showrunner. It's also just such a pleasure to look at, thanks to the arrival of genius production designer Michael Pickwoad (who will be around for the next five series) heralding a major upgrade in the visuals of the show. About the only blemish in the story is the unfortunate case of idiot plotting whereby the Doctor has to somehow fail to notice the great big number counting down right on the front of Abigail's casket. Against that, however, is the reveal of young Kazran at the "ghost of Christmas Future" moment, which is a brilliant piece of writing (and a twist that I think most viewers fail to see coming). And it's hard not to be moved as the Doctor induces Kazran to become a better person by literally embracing his inner child... :-)

Steven Cooper

Just finished work, now I can go home and watch my favourite Finale and my favourite Christmas Special back to back!
