Woo, I actually just caught up. This is the first time I noticed the parallels between Rivers two episodes. In her first those that were killed by the Vashta Nerada ghosted and the VN used their voices. In her second outing the Angel's are using their voices too!! I see the Doctor being so physical with Amy more that he still sees her as a child so her feels more paternal toward her. He's over 900 years old, and he met her when she was such a little child. From his perspective he met her as Amelia just a couple of days ago, arguably today from his perspective. When a child you are close to is in pain either physically or emotionally you want to give them a kiss on the head, or give them a hug. That's what we see from the Doctor in the few episodes we've had of them together.

River was working together with the church undercover to recon on the ship about the angel. The teams mission was to neutralize it. That was stated by Father Octavian in the beginning. River took this job to get out of prison, like she said. I know, there is very much information spread in this episode very fast, so its easy to miss on first watch. Nearly every sentence is important, often for later, Moffat loves this. The twist was of course, that the crash was planned by the angel as a rescue mission to the others, to flood them with radiation so that they can restore. Then yes, they only could get up as the way back was blocked by the angels. I really love every episode with River and this two-parter is one of my favourites. On every rewatch you discover more details you have missed.

Interesting to note that this episode was the very first story shot for S5 with Matt & Karen they went back & shot "The Eleventh Hour" later on. Years later Moffat would say he put his heart & soul into this two-parter that he took his eye off the ball for the previous episode "Victory Of The Daleks" & not paying enough attention on it. Moffat was mainly speaking about the backlash "The Paradigm Daleks" got as the majority of the audience hated the new design & they were compared with Tellytubies & Power Ranger Daleks at the time. The thing Moffat regrets is that the new design was way too big it dwarfed Matt & it looked ridiculous. If he was on set he would have noticed & rectified it immediately & used a camera technique to make the new design imposing.
