WATCH ALONG | DOCTOR WHO | 2013 Christmas Special: The Time of the Doctor

This is the corrected version (the original version that was published early had an issue with my video/audio being out of sync with the show footage).

My video is jumpy/glitchy. So, apologies about that. I'm still working on getting that fixed, but their support team hasn't been any help whatsoever.

Eccleston was my first Doctor, but Smith was *my* Doctor.

This was the saddest of any episode for me. I loved his bow tie, Amy, TARDIS set, outfit, demeanor, everything the best. I wish he had done just one more year. He could have done so much, and he and Clara had such great chemistry. I do love Peter Capaldi but this moment was so heavy for me. Regenerations are always hard to watch, all the doctors have been fantastic. I guess the tragedy is the beauty of it. Everything has an end.

As far as (Doctor) goodbyes go, I think this is my favorite to date. I do agree with others that the pacing is quite off, it probably could have benefited from being a 2 parter. I do really love Matt's Doctor a lot, but Capaldi is so far my all time favorite so I'm excited you've reached this new chapter.

Clara is GOATed. She’s my favorite revival companion.

No matter how many times I watch this episode, Matt's final scenes in the TARDIS make me cry. When he says "I won't forget one line of this, not one day I swear, I'll always remember when The Doctor was me" that was totally Matt talking rather than The Doctor and that's what sets this regeneration apart for me. That speech and Amy being there and the bow tie dropping to the floor was all Matt's farewell and that's beautiful. Plus 11 is my favourite Doctor so far, he truly captured my heart, so this episode is a hard one for me but in a good way if that makes sense. 😭 As for the rest of the episode, I like how it brings back all the things from his era. But it felt messy to me. Like the lady running the church talked about River which implied that this was a future version of the order of The Silence, but then during the episode they also seemed to become the order. So that's always confused me. And The Doctor seemed to know this woman VERY well, intimately, but we'd never met her. And we never found out why she seemed to be narrating over parts of the episode. And they seemed to try and shove as many creatures into the episode as they could which they really didn't need to do. But on the positive side of things, The Doctor being naked was so funny. As was him taking his wig off lol. And I loved his interactions with Clara. Well I just loved everything Clara did again. How many times has she saved The Doctor now? More than any other companion has already and she's only had half a season. She jumped into his timestream to save him from the Great Intelligence, all her echos saved him god knows how many times, she convinced The Doctor to save Gallifrey and now she's convinced the Time Lords to give him a new regeneration cycle. (things that happen in the future make this scene even better) And this isn't even half of what she does for him. She's beyond special and she'll always mean the world to me. 💕

What really makes this episode make sense is knowing that is was meant to basically a whole another series but Matt wanted to move on so Moffat just tries to squeeze all the stuff with setting up the idea of the papal mainframe and bring back the crack/question/silence stuff from s6 into on episode. There are therefore some pacing problems at times as we don’t really get to sit with the ideas but it’s a good goodbye for Matt with some touching moments. I’m VERY excited for the next chapter so I’m going to watch 8.1 straight away.

Fun fact, in that scene together Karen and Matt were both totally bald and wearing wigs! Matt had a wig on for this whole episode, the bald scene wasn't a cap lol
