My take on why this Doctor has a bigger issue with soldiers is down to 2 things. Both to do with the two episodes leading up to regeneration. Starting with the 50th anniversary, that's the moment the Doctor realizes he actually didn't kill the timelords. The last few hundred years have been rewritten. He thought he wiped out his species and in fact he saved (or at least has tried to save) them. So maybe he's feeling a bit "holier than thou" about war and soldiers. The next episode, the regeneration episode, the Doctor defended the town of Christmas from alien "soldiers" for hundreds of years. That's got to have let a bitter taste in his mouth. 12 was basically born out of 2 wars.

2023-06-09 05:36:13 +0000 UTCI also like this episode, I don't love it, but I do find all the interactions between Clara, Danny and The Doctor so interesting. We've seen The Doctor be jealous before when a companion he's in love with has a love interest apart from him, mainly with Mickey. 9 called him an idiot all the time lol. But it was never this agressive. The Doctor's love for Clara goes beyond what he felt for Rose imo. And also Mickey was harmless and he never really faught back, whereas Danny is more than happy to have a go at The Doctor as we saw in this episode, and Danny being a soldier doesn't help. I don't think The Doctor hates soldiers any more than he did in the past, he's just more focused on it now because his Clara is dating one. Also your opinion of not liking Danny much is one that 99.9% of fans share lol. I can't remember ever seeing anyone who likes him. And the way he talks to Clara in this episode is a big reason why, he's controlling and such a jerk. If they were going to bring in a boyfriend for Clara, which I feel is pointless anyway, they could've done a lot better. I can't stand him sorry. 🙈 As for The Doctor. Yeah he definitely could've been a lot nicer to Danny, jealous or not. He was a dick to Danny you're right. But in their argument in the TARDIS, they were both as bad as each other. The Doctor was being rude and Danny was deliberately trying to antagonize The Doctor and get into his head. It was literally two men fighting over a girl lol. They made fools out of themselves there but it was fun to watch tbf. Oh and when Clara said she doesn't love The Doctor "in that way" she was totally lying and no one can convince me otherwise. Whouffaldi shipper forever here, unashamedly. 😂🤷
