This episode makes me emotionally uncomfortable, so I don't like it. But that's on me.

Fair point. I can maybe look past the thing about the creature laying another egg. But all my other issues with the episode stand. It just didn't work for me unfortunately, it had potential but wasn't executed well.

Siobhan Linehan

Although I’m not denying this episode has a LOT of plotholes/questionable elements of the story, I’ve always found the criticism of “how did it lay an egg bigger than itself straight away” always a bit of an unfair criticism because it’s literally an alien. It’s biology is going to be totally different to anything we can compare it to on earth. It may not make sense by our standards, but compared to the abilities of other Doctor Who creatures I’d say it’s not so far-fetched.

Sadly I am in the not liking this episode camp. This is the only series 8 episode that I just don't enjoy. Firstly, The Doctor was really out of character. He'd never knowingly take a child with him to a dangerous place, it was different with 11 and the kids that Clara used to nanny for because he thought he was taking them to a theme park, he didn't know there would be Cybermen. And the kids were taken before he could get them off the planet. But The Doctor deliberately took Courtney to a dangerous place and kept her there. He then abandoned Clara, a 15 year old girl and that other lady on a moon that was breaking apart to make the most awful decision. Despite him constantly interfering in Earth's history before. And he talked to Clara like she was a toddler, like he was testing her and that was SO wrong. I'm glad that Clara shouted at him, I agree that Jenna was AMAZING in that speech. Wow what an actress. And I also agree that Peter is fantastic and really draws you in. I love him and I love 12, which is why this episode annoys me so much. It didn't feel right for him to do any of this. Also yes Doctor Who does crazy and silly things all the time, but there has to be some sort of logic behind them and the logic behind this episode wasn't there for me. Firstly, there's no way Clara could see all the lights on Earth with some binoculars. And how many people would see that message or take it seriously? Not everyone that's for sure. And I bet some people would've kept their lights on, they're saying that everyone on Earth wanted to kill the creature and I don't buy that. Also surely someone would've realized that there's a giant alien creature growing inside the moon before it started breaking apart. We never found out what the creature is, what it wants or what on Earth happens to it. A baby hatching and then laying another egg makes no sense at all. And just those few seconds without a moon would've caused chaos with the tides, among other things, it wouldn't have just been all fine like it was. So much about this episode is wrong. Oh and I agree about the spiders, they ended up being totally pointless. The start of the episode with the spiders seeming like the main threat is scary, but then they were just nothing. There's a lot more and a lot better they could've done with the premise of this episode. Thank god for Clara's speech because that's the only reason I rewatched this with you honestly. Rant over lol, but yep I don't like this episode in the slightest. Sorry. 🙈 But next week's episodes are both fantastic, the first of which is in my top 10 episodes of all time. So I look forward to seeing your thoughts on those. 😊

I completely agree! There's some debating going on over on Patreon but I definitely land on the side of, is it ridiculous? Yes. Is it Doctor Who? Yes. So, I just went with it. Regardless of the premise, it was still well done and that scene with Clara and the Doctor was everything.

Thank you!! <3 Not sure why I felt like actually doing something with my makeup instead of just using whatever happens to be on my desk when I go to record, but I did. lol

I'm so glad you liked this episode. Lots of people don't to be honest because they can't get on board with the whole the moon is egg idea. But there are so many ridiculous things that happen on Who and in the context of the story the dilemma really works for me. I mean the plot isn't faultless and I think Courtney is terribly written but Jenna and Capaldi's performances and how their relationship is written is stellar. Both actors can really own a scene and the writing gives them plenty of opportunities to shine.

Carys Barnes

I agree with you - Capaldi is absolutely the best actor out of all the ones you've seen so far. He's also a talented artist;decent scriptwriter, and a fine musician.

Ian Smith

In a way, I don't think he even really *knew* that Clara has a problem with him until now. It kinda seemed like he realized it in the moment. I think he just assumed Clara was cool with him (like she was with 11) even though he clearly is operating differently.

Steve Combs

I think 12 focuses so much on the big-picture goals he forgets to consider the steps and damage on the way there. I mean he seems not even to register people's faces often.

Malcolm Wolf

Can I just say that your look is just SLAYYYYYYY
