I completely agree with this statement. I would really have loved him to do *more.*

I'm really really glad to see youre enjoying clara's character arc!!! i know a lot of reactors who were turned off by her less "morally good" traits and really disliked her character because of them but, like me, you seem to be having fun picking apart the whys and hows and where is it goings of clara oswald's story. as usual, lovely reaction <3

CLARA, MY CLARA <3333333 This episode was a wake-up call for twelve for sure, more than the past two episodes managed to do. He got to see both himself from an outside perspective by observing Clara in action, AND see what traveling with him is doing TO Clara by removing himself from the equation. I absolutely agree with you saying that he seems worried about her. The lines "that's how you think, right?" "largely so other people don't have to." in particular have stuck with me for many years.

A fantastic episode again. Series 8 is just brilliant imo. I'm glad you're enjoying it too and you'll be happy with the payoff at the end of the season I'm sure. The Boneless are SO creepy, especially the giant hand that comes out of the train tunnel roof and grabs that guy. It's really creepy. And I loved seeing Clara as The Doctor and seeing his reaction to how good she was at it was very interesting. It's like he's worried about her and worried about the influence he's having on her. But I also think that Clara's independence and intelligence are what draws The Doctor to her. She's the smartest companion The Doctor has had I think and when he talks to her she understands everything, even from the start she has, and I think that's special for him. Most people just look at him with a blank expression when he tries to explain things lol. So for The Doctor, he's torn between loving who she is and being worried about what travelling with him is doing to her. At least that's the impression I get from this episode. As for Missy, you'll have to wait and see. 👀

It's very rare for a new writer to come into the series and do as well as Jamie Mathieson does with "Mummy on the Orient Express" and this episode. They're both really strong stand-alone stories, featuring inventive plotting, great dialogue, and original and memorable monsters, which also seamlessly develop the season arc of the Doctor and Clara's relationship. I was particularly struck by the way Mathieson skilfully makes space for exploration and investigation scenes which give both episodes a refreshing old-school feel. The modern Doctor Who series, which has to tell most of its stories in 45 fast-paced minutes, often resorts to shortcuts like the Doctor already knowing all about whatever menace he's facing this week, or else very quickly finding someone who can tell him everything he needs. In contrast, both "Mummy" and "Flatline" make him work hard before he comes up with a way to win (or, in this episode's case, helps Clara to do it). Capaldi and Coleman by this stage are working together beautifully. The supporting cast aren't as vivid as those in the last episode, except for the deeply unpleasant Fenton. It's a memorable performance by Christopher Fairbank, who's a better actor than the part really needed -- like the cartoonish businessman Rickston Slade in 2007's "Voyage of the Damned", Fenton's mainly there to prompt the Doctor's final observation that sometimes the "wrong" people survive. Presumably the aliens refrained from flattening him out of professional courtesy towards a fellow two-dimensional character... :-)

Another great episode, another standout of this series imo
