I hesitate to comment on this era in particular. I’m *not* a fan. I could go into detail about why (even starting with this episode), but I think it’s important that one experience’s this era without prejudice or any bias one way or another. I’ll stick with some of my positives of this episode. There are *great* things about this episode . For the most part, Jodie is a great Doctor. She embodies a lot of the characteristics of our hero *right off the bat*. The first episode really hits the ground running. The show itself has never looked better and I think that the monster designs are really good, the Stenza warrior design (before he takes the helmet off because… ew!) is really effective and intimidating. The actors is largely great, and I felt that it was a real win to showcase a companion with a disability. Not all disabilities are visible or even immediately apparent, and it was great to see the show try to prioritize raising awareness of it. Absolute win, in my opinion.

I'm SO SO glad that you loved this episode. It makes me annoyed that people on your YouTube have been spreading hate about Jodie's era right from the episode Rose. And I'm sad to see so much negativity in the comments here too. I've said this before and I'll say it again, the hatred that this era gets is totally unjustified. Now, series 11 has a lot of issues but it's far from terrible. And from then onwards I love this era. Series 12 is in my top 5. I won't say anything more than that but I truly think you'll have a good time going forwards. I hope so anyway. 🤞 Jodie for me was BRILLIANT right from the start. She just feels like The Doctor immediately. Even when there's bad writing she shines and I do have a bit of a crush on her, ngl. 😂 But I just think her acting is great and she really gets what The Doctor is about. As for Yaz, Graham, Grace and Ryan. I have mixed feelings about them as a whole, but based on just this episode, I think they introduce them very well and you do care about them all quickly as a viewer which is good. The only issues I have with this episode are the music, it doesn't really hit in the way that it needed to for me. And also I feel like the characters over explain things at times, that's actually an ongoing issue in this era. It's like the writers treat the audience like idiots sometimes. But give me a good story like this one and I can look past it. And yeah, I just hope you'll have an overall positive view of this era once you get to the end. Because I will stand up for Jodie and for this era to whoever wants to fight about it lol. 😊💕

I really loved Grace, and like you said Britany, I felt such a connection to her I was sad when she died. I wish we could have had a few more episodes with her before she died, but the shock factor was important for setting the tone I think.

I love Doctor Who but i think the writing lets Jodies era down for me, all my friends who watch DW think the same as well You might love it though and im interested to see what your thoughts on the other episodes will be

I may unsubscribe for a while until the midpoint of season 12 comes along because that’s where the show starts picking back up again for me.

A lot of people have a lot of opinions on this era but i think everyone agrees, Graham is a great.

I think most of the issues some people have with this series is writing direction in some places.
