WATCH ALONG | DOCTOR WHO | 13x6 | The Vanquishers

Two announcements were made around the 1:10:30 mark in the video. If you want to hear the full announcements, please watch that part of the video.

The TLDR version for those who don't care to watch the full announcements:

Announcement 1: Starting next week, we'll be going down to one NuWho episode per week. (I explain why in the video.)

Announcement 2: After we get through this upcoming round of specials and I'm caught up with NuWho, I'll be starting reactions to Class (one episode per week).

Also, in the thoughts segment, I referenced my reaction to the edited videos relating to the 60th Anniversary specials. If you haven't watched it and would like to do so, you can find it here.

Finally got around to watching this. It's a really good finale considering how many things they had to wrap up. I'm not sure if you've been made aware of this or not, but this series was really affected by covid. Basically they wrote it to be across 10 episodes but then covid meant filming was massively delayed and due to the delays mixed with the longer filming times due to social distancing and the studios needing to catch up with the filming of multiple shows, they were forced to cut series 13 down to 6 episodes. They edited the script as much as they could without firing the actors that they'd already hired. The series does feel very rushed at times and confusing and like there's too much going on but that's why. I think if they'd had 10 episodes and the originally planned longer finale they would've wrapped everything up SO much better and it could've been a top 3 series very easily. So I take that into consideration when watching it. My main disappointment with this series isn't how Swarm and Azure were defeated and isn't Tecteun's early demise, it's actually The Grand Serpant's ending. He's this all powerful seemingly immortal being who can suffocate people from the inside. But he gets two guns pointed at him and walks through the door to his eternal exile without even putting up a fight. That made no sense and I wonder if in the original script they had a better idea for him. Because what happened annoyed me a bit lol. But yeah, overall I do enjoy this series. Jodie is totally brilliant, as she always is. I also really love Dan, so I'm glad you do too. Karvanista is a great character who I hope we see again. Vinder and Bel are interesting little side characters who I also hope we see again. And I really have loved rewatching these with you. Now on to the specials. There's some special and unique stuff coming up. Excited. 😊

Community is a great show! I'll echo it on discord and see if its in the reaction text channel there for easy reminder of the suggestion!

Steve Combs

I shall be sure to get it to her.

It doesn't surprise me you'd go to 1 episode a week. Personally I'd rather have 1 episode a week continuously rather than 2 per week then a massive gap. You'll probably find yourself with a long gap after each season airs (it's 8 episodes + christmas special from now on according to RTD) but the good news is that in the future Davie's has said he wants to have many many spin off's running throughout the year, so hopefully in the not too distant future we'll have continuous content each week. The first spin off is rumoured to start shooting in March.

Will you be doing a reaction to the 2023 Children In Need Doctor Who special as well?

Can't wait to watch these later and share my thoughts. But I just wanted to say, I think it's a great idea to just do one special each week, that'll prolong it a bit. And I look forward to watching Class with you because I've actually never seen it. I'm not sure what your plans are for the rest of the year (apart from when Doctor Who has new episodes out of course) but hopefully it's ok for me to give a couple of suggestions that you could add to your list if you haven't seen them already of course. First up is the sitcom Community. It's basically a sci-fi sitcom at times lol and two of the characters are obsessed with a TV show called Inspector Spacetime which is a parody of Doctor Who and this features throughout the seasons with some great jokes only Doctor Who fans would understand lol. I think you'd enjoy it. And secondly is the NBC show Timeless. It's a time travel show where this trio use a time machine to travel back to significant historical moments to capture a fugitive. It's really good and very underrated. It only has two seasons and a TV movie but the story wraps up perfectly. The show also tackles some important topics such as racism and has some epic twists too. So that's another show I think you'd like. I mean maybe everyone on Discord has already given you a ton of ideas and you have the year set out already. But if not maybe these are shows you could consider. 😊
