I know I'm late but while I was watching the loreli fight, my mind was screaming to use sun boosted fire blast! I know the accuracy isn't great but it could help one hit lapras and slowbro to avoid grinding extra levels.

I wonder if picking up Dragon Claw in victory road might have been a better option to take advantage of Charizard’s better special attack and get more effective damage against Lance’s whole team. Perhaps over slash with Earthquake in the back as an option.

Yeah, I realized it during production but it was too late to go back and re-do that portion of the video. I'm going to work on the software so it updates the move's power based on those abilities.

Survived with 69 HP on the last battle and finished at level 68. Nearly perfectly nice.

Sort of pointed out already but those "good damage ranges" against the elite 4 (especially Lance and Loreli) are really "was Blaze active". You could only 1 shot the Lapras with sun and Blaze. The 2 shot on Dragonite was the same. Have you ever watched the old firered speedruns where they used to use the Charizard line? The entire run is about managing your HP so Blaze is active for all the key moments. For example: blaze+sun Flamethrower is probably better than Rock Slide vs. Aerodactyl too. Unfortunately this makes planning the optimized routes for these type boosting ability pokemon a nightmare because of the HP routing needed for a truly optimal time. I look forward to seeing what you come up with :D

These are the facts that really make the difference in my gameplay!

Scott, Another critical piece of information that wasn't mentioned that could save you some time: Charmander is a portmanteau of “Char” and “Salamander”. Char is a word that means to slightly burn, which is applicable since Charmander is a FIRE type. Salamanders are a type of reptile that are also associated with fire! They were known to run out of logs when set on fire, so people thought they were fire lizards. I hope this information helps!

The thumbnail tagline for Raticate should say "The Original Lechonk!"

its crazy to me how misty/starmie get either the confusion of water pulse or crits more often than not there has to be some weird coding for it xD

I'm pretty sure ground doesn't resist steel type, so brock's pokemon are weak to it. IDK if you figured that out in the run, but just thought I'd say it. Also, love the gym leader transitions using the frlg art.

Something about the like...emotion in Raichu's sprite just felt very appropriate. A very "can't catch me" kind of feel. A couple of things I thought to bring up as you're learning these games: Pokemon like Mr.Mime, Alakazam, Gengar and Slowbro all got pretty nerfed in Generation 2. They all take pretty massive cuts to their Sp.Def (Alakazam's for instance is 50 points lower!) so for a lot of Pokemon, special moves will likely do the job. Alakazam doesn't really show in Crystal and is absent from Emerald almost entirely so its pretty easy to miss. Also for some of the weaker Fire-type later on, Dewgong actually has Thick Fat which is why it took so little damage from Flamethrower. There's a ton of Pokemon with...not very good abilities but Seel and Dewgong are not one of them :D Really enjoyed the video though, I don't even think Charizard did that poorly comparatively despite its resets. It's boosted Sp.Atk compared to RBY is probably part of that tbh.

Really seems like Blaze made a huge difference in this run- especially in the Champion battle. Wonder if it would be possible to get Abilities like the those included in the real-time move power calculations for the overlay?

Homukami

Ground doesn't resist Steel... Ember might still be better, though, because Brock's pokemon have high Defence.
