This story is a really fun way to start the fourth Doctor’s era and it’s really smartly written too because it’s essentially a third Doctor story with the fourth Doctor in it. This serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it makes it easier for people to adjust to the new Doctor by putting him in a style of story we’ve become used to with familiar characters, but it also means we see just how different the fourth Doctor is from the third by how differently he acts and responds to things and because he’s in a familiar setting, the contrast is even more stark and easier to recognise. It’s a very clever way to show off how much the Doctor has changed. Man, Tom Baker comes storming in and gives a performance as the Doctor unlike anything we've ever seen before. He immediately commands the screen, completely owning the role.
