Update! Last of the year~

This update doesn't have as many day updates this time around, but the extra time went to learning some new programs to do backgrounds in. I've not updated all of them yet, but I think it's a huge improvement over what I was doing, so be sure to let me know what you guys think about it! Here's some of the stuff included in the update.
- Day 6 for Spencer added
- Day 6 for Chester added
- Added some more pages to Coach's book
- Update a number of backgrounds!
-Added a handful of people to my credits page (thanks to all of my supporters!)
- Fixed a slew of typos and such (thanks to everyone that's sent in errors!)
Day 6 is where the routes really start to split up from each other, and there are some big changes in what happens depending on your choices the past days.
Just a reminder for anyone new to picking this up, if you're on a MAC, you might not have this FONT, so be sure to download it if you get an error before opening the game mentioning the missing trebuc.tff file.

You're right about that, it's just that with the language barrier and all (English isn't my first language), I tend to think "company" = "big name brand", like Opel, Sony, or Disney, something that wouldn't go away and be forgotten in a blink of an eye. But yeah, for a small enterprise, maybe it would hit the local newspaper and maaaaaaybe a few internet websites, so my bad. It's weird indeed for Spencer, but he has the excuse of being superbusy ; the studies, captain of the tennis club, the dancing training, helping the café, his possible job, maybe part-time Jesus (with the hypothetical nature of his job, that would be quite a twist !), and he's not half-assing anything. You may represent a lot to him, he has way too many priorities. Though there are holidays after all, so I'm not sure if this holds much water. Interesting, I first assumed the main character was going to be a human. It's better for the sake of story telling and immersion, however that most likely means there won't be a CG of a hug or a kiss between him and another character, oh well, guess I'll have to use my imagination ! Also poor MC the first two days when he tries the to see everyone and being "meh" on some options : "Welp ! Nobody likes me !" Holy crap, I should stop with the walls of texts...

It's possible to conceal a LOT from parents who aren't in the same city, including homelessness. Well, judging by some people I knew in college, anyway. What's weirder is that it took Spencer a year to cotton on to things.

2015-12-30 04:44:14 +0000 UTCI haven't actually described the main character for a reason ;3 I leave that up to the player, really. I mean, you can name the character, so why can't it just be.. you? I didn't want to take the general.. human main player thing, so you can envision whatever you like~ I'm glad you find some way to see Maria there too... As if she's behind you XD That amuses me. I'll see what else I can find out about that after_load stuff, Regonoreth! My variables aren't all just yes/no. There are is a point system hidden in there too. And some interesting things to think about with the parents. They've existed at some point, but I've not honestly established anything about them. I've not had much of a need for them just yet. No character other than Spencer would know anything about them, so that's why he'd not mention them, and no other character has had a reason to ask about his parents just yet (Remember, Maria didn't ask questions either!).

2015-12-29 12:26:27 +0000 UTCHaha ! I thought the same thing about Maria, I always picture her behind the player like a crazy stalker (in that regard, and absolutely no others, huh Darius ?). Maybe she really is the mother, it's just that the main character never thought of making eye contact with her to begin with. However for the parents, it's gonna be a little tough to include them, I believe. I first thought they weren't mentioned because they were already dead ; "mother from almost every classic Disney fairy tale" style. The MC lost his job, went homeless for a week, and is currently in a shelter. That's not something that would go simply unnoticed by the parents for over a year (it's not like he got fired and lied about it, the company pretty much went bankrupt, it should be public information). Then again, the MC could have just lied and told them he got another job (but if they have access to his bank account... screwed). Plus, the parents have to know Spencer at the very least, since the MC & Spencer were friends ever since they were 10 years old. If they are the kind of friends that used to hang out and come in each other's home, that would be a given to have some kind of interaction between Spencer and the parents years later. Just a thought, but maybe the parents pressured the MC because they initially had high expectations and wanted him to become like Spencer (succeeding at everything), it turned out not to be, inferiority complex ensues, the MC doesn't wanna become or be seen as a failure, and... I'm probably reading too much into this, so I should stop, again it's just an idea. They probably already met the Coach/Teacher as well, though maybe not interacted with him long enough. No idea how you could make them interact with Chester though. With Darius... I dunno, maybe Darius tried to hit on the MC's father before, then they meet again and hijinx ensues ? Jk. As for Dozer... no idea too, I only know he's calm and reserved.

" The newer versions of Ren'Py have a 'default' statement than you can use for this. Well, if it's a simple yes/no variable. Things like friendship points that depend on what day it is you'd probably need to do fiddly things in the after_load label.

2015-12-29 10:37:30 +0000 UTCThe reason you never see Maria is just that she has a habit of always standing directly behind you. ALWAYS. I am unsure of what species pretty much any invisible character is, though for most I guess it doesn't matter. Though it occurs to me that there are also no clues about what the protagonist looks like, or even what species *he* is, which is... odd? But I guess I didn't really notice that until now either.

HAha, I think a lot of people would have a similar reaction to that, but it shows off a little more to Chester, and I tried to hint that whatever he was watching focused more on the... male aspect during certain scenes. Poor guy was so flustered. Yeeah, some of them are a bit plain right now. I threw a lot of them together really quick, and still haven't figured out how to do certain things in the program XD It's a process, for sure, so I still have a lot of work to do there! I'd like a sprite for Maria, cause she's playing a bigger roll in things than I had intentionally planned! I haven't decided on WHAT she is yet either though! As for his parents.. I haven't decided on them, yet. I have a couple of ideas about the,, but I've not chosen a route to go with.

Noticed other mistakes : When you choose "Event?" at Critical Strike, Chester then mentions the place, but it's misspelled : "Critcal Strike is a gaming lounge". Oddly enough, that only happens if you pick "Event?" and not the "I'm here to see you" option. I would use "TVs" rather than "tvs" but that's probably just me. "I actaully did it right!" during Chester & MC's double game. "YOu seem pretty tired" in Chester's living room. Also... WHAT THE HELL KIND OF SHOWS ARE YOU WATCHING, CHESTER ?! I love the MC's reaction on the moment : (MC) "Oh, there's a porno on TV, interesting." (Chester) "AHHHRFDKJGHDF NUUUUOOOOOH" (MC) "He changed the channel, oh well, whatevs', LET'S SEE HOT DECK CARDS ACTION !!". Well I went overboard with Chester's reaction, it's almost like he thinks that the MC is a 9 year old kid who isn't supposed to know what he's watching, and then he just went away hoping the MC would just forget about everything 5 seconds later. Oh boy, an overprotective brother, things are never simple. Some more feedback : I like some of the newer environments, others still need work. The exteriors look plain, what kills it is mostly the grass (everywhere we go it's lawned, poor plants & flowers) and the lack of details, sometimes the road, especially in the path leading to the shelter (goodness the border, no offense but if that's how American roads look like then I ain't coming !). The café is fine daytime (during the night since we see what's inside, it's a bit... white to say the least) but it still feels like the bulk of your work went into the interior of the shelter and the bedroom, the rest still feels a bit like work-in-progress. I've been wondering if Maria will ever get a sprite of her own, just for major-feminine-presence sake, though I'm gonna assume since she is probably a human, it's unlikely. Oh, so it's Darius who replaces her part during the party in Spencer's route, what an... improvement ? Gimme back my unofficial momma ! No answer from her in the shelter though in that scenario, wonder where she went... and when I think about it, I haven't seen a mention of the MC's parents either.

There -is- a difference between what you pick though ;3 Most of your choices have some kind of hidden variable to it that will cause things to change (even if slightly). I like that you're noticing these things though! Sometimes, it's a pain to come up with.. alternate routes. But these things will certainly add up. The error most likely comes from whenever I do an update, if I add a new variable in to the game, it doesn't get recognized until you start over with the new game. It's unfortunate >< I noticed this when testing it, and I haven't found a way to fix it yet. Thanks for this feedback! <3

2015-12-28 11:33:28 +0000 UTCWait a minute... Spencer has a star on his forehead, dances around a pole to keep in shape, is really well built, and has a nickname for his possible job... Of course ! Now I know ! He's a ballerina themed wrestler ! Wait, that doesn't sound right... because he probably works at a bar-- ooooh. Naughty Spence. I didn't see much difference between some choices in Spencer's route, in the long-term I mean, I don't think Chirper/Imager/MyFace actually changes anything for the party. Prying didn't do much either except in the moment. Maybe the little tease is for later. Haven't tried much else (except there's a way to tell Spencer about the refuge before Maria does, but I have yet to experience anything else after this scenario), I mean I don't want to not follow his advice on the tennis court. Also : "he'd never done so much busniess" towards the end. I have yet to continue Chester's path, but when I first loaded one of my saves for Spencer prior to this update, I had an error message during the party (but I could still make progress), and when I started a new game and then went to that point, it didn't occur.
