Main Character Poll and Update Info

Hey guys, so it's finally time for me to make a decision here, and I want your opinions.  As you might have noticed, I've given no indication about what the main character is.  I let  you guys name him, and things just go from there.  I haven't decided anything about him, really, and I need your help.  So, would you rather the player character to be a human, a furry, or for me to keep it non-specific?  Human seems like the most reasonable choice, but I want to know what YOU guys are thinking about this.

As well, leave me your thoughts about it here too.    I look forward to seeing what you all think!

And just some other info.  It might not affect the update any, but just in case..  I moved on the first this month to a new place, so I'm in the process of getting settled in and such.  I'm still getting work done, but I'm not sure HOW much.  Coach's update is next (and it's bigger than normal even).  I just want to give you all a heads up in case I don't get a couple days done like normal.  So far, I'm on track to, I think x3

Thanks everyone!

What's wrong with these people?! Human? Seriously? Why are your choice human, but not furry? Why??? Dyne, please, don't make him a human, i beg you. T_T

Well dang now i'm embarrassed. Thanks for responding though. I am glad humans a yes for the protagonist, now i love this VN even more.

Eric

Hehe, I do see it! (glad I get notified with new comments). Human seems to be an overwhelming YES for people, due to that one reason in particular. I have some ideas~

DyneWulf

I would say human just because i have yet to see another in this VN so that wood make things more interesting. I absolutely wouldn't go with non-specific because my dirty mind is hoping to see fully illustrated sex-scenes in the future and non-specific might make that impossible.I don't know if Dark King will even see this though cuz i am quiet late to the poll.

Eric

I voted originally with the link provided, however I just read the comments and you said there was interference with the link so I'll state it here: I'm voting for keeping the main character non-specific, though if I had to choose I would say Human.

The counter is actually correct, but there is a difference between now and just a week ago. I had a handful of declined pledges, and there are 2 in particular that I figured were fake ones (both $50s). I received most of it, so no worries there ;3

DyneWulf

Patreon recently switched to trying to show the creator's actual payment total rather than just the pledged total, so the number at the top left is accounting for fees and declined payments and so forth. Presumably the total patron number is the same and is subtracting out people who had declined payments. It's a way to combat problems artists have been having where somebody registers a large pledge, either to get restricted content or push over a milestone, but then at the end of the month their credit card (or especially PayPal) comes up bad.

Speaking of, isn't the counter on the left glitched? On the front page, at the bottom of it, you have 42 patrons. It did the same at the start of each month for alot of projects (most notably Blackgate's which has over 90 patrons missing). You were like over 320$ last month, hope the counter is in error, and that you've received the money. As for the poll ; I voted with my Wii U, I figure I could double vote using my phone and triple vote with my computer. It would be safer to do this only through messages or PMs, so that only the patrons (registered prior to the question if you can tell them apart) can answer.

Vic Viper

(Doing that with a phone, dun' mind the potential mispelling) Voted Human by default, because it seems like the most simple decision. Non-specific is interesting for general immersion if handled correctly, but restrictive concerning the art, and Furry is already non-specific and vague in itself : Shark? Moose? Dragon? Fox? So, I choose Human more for simplicity sake rather than for stylistic purposes or personal preference (though a little).

Vic Viper

Huuuh, I guess other people had access to my poll. The voting became beyond skewed... 50+ votes, and I have.. under 40 Patrons XD I'm going to base it off those of you that left comments.

DyneWulf

Hm. I suspect that some of the value of the player-pick option is in making occasional references to what was chosen--both little one-offs that don't affect the story much (like ear flicks or good night-vision) as well as in scenes that need to make detailed descriptions or vary other characters' reactions to the player. If you're writing completely nonspecificly then you might as well just do that and save yourself the art multiplication.

Regonoreth

I always imagine it as a human XD Just cause I put myself in the shoes of the main character and how I'd act around them.

DyneWulf

That was my thinking behind it. Just let the player decide what they are!

DyneWulf

I've toyed with the idea of giving the player an option. Due to the nature of me not really describing the character, it wouldn't be too much work to add in such an option. The only downside would come to having CM do variations of any art involving the player character.

DyneWulf

I have been unclear on whether humans exist in this world at all, really. // I like "nonspecific", but it does prevent there ever being protagonist art. // There is also a compromise option, though it's rather more work for you: let the player choose from among a handful of alternatives at the same time they choose their name. // At this point you may have already broken nonspecificity though--aren't there conversations in Spencer Day 6 that only work if the protagonist isn't a canid and can't smell as well as Spence (and Darius)?

Regonoreth

I think Human would be nice since it adds a different element to the furry cast. But at the same time non-spefic works since everyone can image it's them

I would vote for non-specific for it open up for multiple fantasy scenario when we are experiencing the game. I could imagine I am a human trying to hit up Chester or I am a wolf that has been friend with Spencer since childhood. I do think leave a certain percentage of blank space for players to fill up might make the game more interactive, more unique experience each time we go through the game.
