Character Voices - What do you hear?
Added 2016-05-10 00:31:24 +0000 UTCSo tell me guys, what kind of voices do you hear the cast having? I'd like to hear about what you hear when the characters talk. If you have examples even, share those! I'd like to know :D
Comments
I could see Coach with a New Yorker or Englishmen voice, and kinda deep. Chester could have like a deep, lazy voice and/or trying to imitate some videogame character. Spencer could have a standard voice with some "kick" in it, and excited-ish Dozer should definitely have a very deep voice, but with with little to no confidence to reflect his shy nature. Darius should have Daveywavey's voice. Maria should have a mexican accent, but very, VERY mother-like.

2016-05-12 03:38:31 +0000 UTCI'm glad you feel that way! I like to have all the choices mean something, but there are times when.. they just don't, but give you guys a bit more freedom in deciding how the MC will act, and you get some variation in the dialogue. Seeing these comments though... :D

2016-05-11 20:20:19 +0000 UTCYeah, I agree. Actual books the protagonist is separate enough that I can deal with it, but a CYOA-style VN you identify more and it's jarring to have a lot of forced decisions I'd never have made in a million years. DW's been good about putting the major ones as actual choices. And a lot of minor ones even, which prevents EA being just "Here, choose who to go after, now I'm going to tell you a story for 30 minutes."

2016-05-11 16:36:00 +0000 UTCYay, your right. It's the decisions your given that make the MC relatable. Good on you though DyneWulf for making the MC so relatable cuz I've played plenty of other decision based VN's were i had NOTHING in common with the MC and it often putts me off the VN or even book. To be fair though books are meant to tell a story no mater what that story may be while a VN (most of the time) tries to putt you in the story and fails.

2016-05-11 14:08:30 +0000 UTCThe personality similarity might be related to whose voice MC keeps hearing in his head telling him to do things...

2016-05-11 06:46:52 +0000 UTCThen, everyone would have your voice! That's how it goes for me XD
DyneWulf
2016-05-10 21:54:03 +0000 UTCYeah, I could see that, since his attitude is fairly different between the two places.

2016-05-10 21:53:17 +0000 UTCHonestly, everyone has the same voice in my head when I read the dialogue. I never really assign voices to characters when I read. It's just a thought I'm toying with right now, so we'll see if anything comes of it!

2016-05-10 21:52:41 +0000 UTCI have no intention of doing a complete set of voice acting for the characters, so don't worry about that ;3 The original thought I had was to do something basic though. Maybe just a couple of words when introducing characters on screen, kinda like in the newest Fire Emblem games. And you're right about the voices not matching. It could be troublesome to some people. Though, Dozer's voice is pretty consistent to a lot of people.. a deep, black man's voice XD

2016-05-10 21:50:58 +0000 UTCharold : gruff 40 something year old new yorker voice spencer: energetic voice with a light bass to it chester: hmm idk haven't really thought about his dozer: definitely a very deep black guy voice with tons of bass spoken in a soft tone since he seems rather shy but i have wondered when you'd bring this topic up and well honestly as much as i'd like the idea i'd say no to voice acting for the character entirely, one it cost more money and two; we've grown to love these characters with are own versions of their voices in are heads as we read their text off screen so adding actual voices that would sound different would be very jarring

2016-05-10 16:20:32 +0000 UTCWhen the protagonist speaks i picture him having my voice but that's the only one i thought of a voice for. Me and the MC's personality type are vary similar in my opinion.
Eric
2016-05-10 14:06:22 +0000 UTCSame, I would more so picture their attitude and personality type than think about how their voices sounded. Definitely interesting to think about though. I think i will try to put a voice to them next time i read this VN.
Eric
2016-05-10 13:54:26 +0000 UTCHe's also a coach, which means he also yells a lot. He might have two modes, actually--cultured in the classroom and rough on the courts.

2016-05-10 09:55:30 +0000 UTCDang, I wouldn't know. But if you're asking this, is it just for laughs, or you're trying to make partial/full voice acting for the game ? Hard for me to say, I never really "hear" anything when the characters talk. I associate them to an attitude, not necessarily to a voice, though at first I thought Darius would be the short/insolent/short-tempered type and have some kind of a ana-- nasal voice (am I describing Stitch ?). What a revelation when you showed his sprite. I can't really see Spencer with a very specific or special kind of voice, someone said "Jason Bateman" (I'm terrible at recognizing or remembering English speaking actors) so I went to check and well, when he acts as Nick Wilde in Zootopia eeeeeh maybe, still hard for me to picture that on 22 year old, super active/caring/protective/sassy Spencer. Maybe it's the tone of the voice which doesn't match for me. But normal Jason Bateman sounds too old and not lively/light enough based on what I've heard. (Spencer might be mature but not to that extent, maybe in his 40s or 50s, heck, Nick Wilde in Zootopia is like in his 30s) Maybe it's just hard for me to picture them with a voice, period. Admittedly I would like it, but I'm not the best person to ask, so I'll let the others decide.

2016-05-10 09:37:13 +0000 UTCcoach has a deep but careful voice in my head. hes an english teacher right? so his words would be measured and proper.

2016-05-10 05:17:13 +0000 UTCHm. Offhand, Dozer sounds like Morgan Freeman to me--deep and calm. Maria sounds like pretty much every older female relative I have. :) Darius is definitely a tenor--pick whatever tween heartthrob you like and it'd be about right. The others--coach feels like he's growling all the time, Chester's a baritone but not as deep as Coach or Dozer, and when he gets excited he sounds a bit like Yogi Bear. Spencer is--I don't know, is "snark" a voice type?

2016-05-10 04:17:49 +0000 UTCI always picture coach with a southern drawl, same with Chester since he says he loves his momma x3 they're my two favorites and of course I would associate them with something I would find very attractive Before we knew what Darius looked like I thought he had an obnoxious meddling antagonist voice, just like a weirdly pitched nasily voice, now I just picture him as like scar from the lion king LOL Spencer probably just a normal voice, maybe a hint of Russian in him Dozer just a calming deep voice maybe like Barry white Maria with a pleasant voice, that of which a caring nurse would have

2016-05-10 03:35:40 +0000 UTCHaha, I can see some of them with these voices XD

2016-05-10 03:14:25 +0000 UTCDarius (New Zealand Accent), Coach (Idris Elba), Spencer (Jason Bateman), Chester (John C. Reilly), and Dozer (Tommy 'Tiny' Lister); or something like this.
