Unfortunately....

The Coach Grifter plush campaign did not succeed.  There wasn't nearly as much support for it as I originally thought there would be, based on my earlier research from seeing what kind of stuff you guys would want.  I'm a bit disappointed, but I think I feel more like I let those of you down that actually backed it, so I'm sorry guys!  I was really hoping it would do better than it did (We only hit around 65% of the total goal).

Several people have mentioned this, and I explained it in posts and on the kickstarter.  The goal was high for several reasons.  I had no choice but to purchase 500 units outright, which costs $7500 already.  I could purchase a smaller amount, but that would increase the price of the plush, so my goal was to keep the price of the plush down, so more people could afford it.  Next, fees for the kickstarter is about 10% of the total goal (So $750 at the least), and then the remaining amount was for shipping.  Assuming 100 bears sold, shipping would have ranged anywhere from $500 to $2500, and that's just bears alone.  I broke this information down for people already.  There are a handful of factors as to why the goal was where it was.  They can't be produced on a per-order basis like the other products, unfortunately.

I'll use this is as a learning experience!  I'll have to try again in the future, so give me some feedback!  Why did you decide not to order one?  What could have been done better?  It was my first time trying something like this, so...  let me know, and maybe we'll see success in the future!

Again, I'm sorry to those of you that backed the campaign.  I really appreciate it, and I'll try bringing you all another plush in the future~

Comments

I didn't know about the existence of this game until a few days ago, so I didn't know that was a thing. :(

Talsen

btw i voted other because echnically thats what happened? if thats not appropriate you had my support either way.

ShouldGetNinjaTabi

well i specifically supported that and then some because im selfish and i admit i wanted a dozer plush. im sorry that it didnt work out Dyne, but nonetheless ill still be around and supporting.

ShouldGetNinjaTabi

He was really cute and i really wanted to support it but I didnt have the money, my pledge for EA is even a gift from someone :/

Rath Yote

i was kinda surprised the kickstarter itself didn't update; more successful kickstarters i've seen had additional rewards put out in the last few weeks, like i was certain you'd open up more of the cameo reward spots in the last week since those four spots just got eaten up right away. more rewards for smaller pledges would definitely have been a good idea; it seems lots of people wanted to support because it meant a better chance of the other character getting plushes but didn't want this plush/couldn't afford it, so a smaller reward tier would work for that.

Vivienne

I'll take a look, but when it comes to producing custom plush toys from someone that isn't a big company, I don't know if there are much better deals, especially for the size and quality (the materials he's made with are pretty nice).

DyneWulf

I will definitely try again :D

DyneWulf

Oh man, that's some fantastic information there. Thanks for much for the ideas, Asarus!

DyneWulf

I just realized these are costing you $15 per bear. I would have expected something more like $3. Fifteen bucks is retail, man. There must be better deals out there.

Chris

Sorry it didn't meet the goal, backed it.I really wanted one T.T .Really hope you will try again in the future. You will have my support!

The Kickstarter was meant to help produce the plushies, but that doesn't mean all the rewards need to be plushies or other kinds of physical merchandise. Plushies, wall scrolls and dakimakuras won't fly in the little home I share with my non-furry boyfriend, but I still want to support. Plus, with physical rewards, I get shipping on top, and then a 25% toll when it arrives the country. If there were digital only rewards, those would be even more up my alley. Suggestions for non-physical rewards: - Art packs (if you have spare art, for instance) - A behind the scenes pdf-book that tells your story about how it all started, what inspires you, how the characters have evolved, your hopes for the project, your hopes for future projects, a chapter about Cursedmarked and his work, IDEKA, etc. You have lots of gorgeous art that you can reuse for such a book - that could make it a great reward on its own. - A cameo tier without physical rewards. Set it at $500, then increase the price of the cameo spot that includes all the physical rewards a little. Your slots sold out this time, so people clearly find them worth it. If dragons weren't only for dream sequences, I know I would have had a very hard time resisting pouncing on one. Other things (that you may have done already): - Ask people to have a look at your Patreon before launch and get feedback on the reward tiers - Have the design of the merchandise as close as possible to how the characters appear in the visual novel - If you can help it, don't censor any artwork in those channels where you don't have to (dakimakura design), EA is a sexy game, so that attracts your readers - Be sure to mention that there are cameos available when you promote the Kickstarter - I think that's a reward that'll make a lot of people want to check out the campaign

Asarus

It was far from rushed x3 I had been planning it for some time and was waiting for the prototype to arrive, ,so I could launch it. So, what I do for EA is my job, basically. This helps pay for art (which in turn pays for my artists food and bills), and it pretty much handles my bills as well, so I can continue working on EA (I couldnt do this otherwise x3). What money doesn't go to the other things, I put up to cover taxes for next year (goodness knows, I'm going to need it). I had all intents on actually making a big push from my savings to finish it off, assuming I reached a certain point, and I didn't even hit that.

DyneWulf

No worries there! Any and all support I get here is more than appreciated <3

DyneWulf

Design was not at all like the actual character. And, like... I don't know what your life or longterm planning is like, but currently, you got about 6000$ in patreon income (minus taxes and whatever cut they take). Maybe you have medical bills or something, but why is the production of your merch a kickstarter when it seems like you should easily be able to fund a small initial run? It came across as a rushed idea, tbh.

Paracelsus

For me, money has been tight. Tight to the point where I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep my pledge just to you for EA. Job hunting here just so I can make some good money and then increase my pledge to you to help you even further! Love everything that you do.

Brian Damiani

This is the kind of feedback I did need (admittedly, I did see the comment beforehand as well). I'll be more open with the preliminary designs in the future (unless it's CM doing his normal art thing x3), that way, I can get the feedback I need first! Definitely not going to let this slow me down on the writing stuff, and Coach's update will be hitting soon!

DyneWulf

I think the plushy's design wasn't up to par with the other products. It looked like a generic teddy bear and not similar enough to coach. Maybe it's the big anime eyes that threw me off (reminded me of Dozer's in the dream scene). I think maybe you should've gone the sexy route rather than the cute one. That being said, I LOVE your game dude. Keep on making stuff :)

Omri

Thanks for the feedback! This is spot on for the kind of info I was looking for. I learned some stuff about how I should be handling prototyping and designing it, for sure >.> I'll be sharing more designs with people instead of trying to keep the design secret!

DyneWulf

Oh no, all feedback is welcome! I'll be using the data I collect to help try and push the next attempt even further :)

DyneWulf

Thank you, thank you! I'll remember that, when I start again! XD

DyneWulf

Thanks so much, Hana ;3 I'll definitely be trying again!

DyneWulf

Sorry that it didn't work out... As for me, the reason I didn't go for the plushy is I was hesitating to because of the design mostly. I think of the coach as this adorable bear with a big belly. Belly wasn't really there and the face didn't look too much like him unfortunately. I do love plushies and would go for it if it's a bit closer to the characters though! (hoping critique is not too much D: )

Grawl

Sad to hear it didn't worked out I loved it and like Hana said I will be on your kickstarter also so don't give up you amazing person that you are.

Loremaster22

If u ever do a kickstarter again i will sure to be on it again! i love ur stuff do keep up the good work <3

Halin

Yeah, I totally get that. I wish the shipping for out of the US wasn't so high >

DyneWulf

Thanks so much for that :) I'm a little bummed, buuuut, I'll learn from this and just try again!

DyneWulf

Hmm, 2 valid points! The timing for it might have been really bad. It's something to considering for next time. As for the other bit, there has been a ton of support for Merch already, so that's why I keep bringing out new stuff here and there. It's just... this one has to be handled in a whole different way. I'll be trying again for sure, when EA starts polishing off more and gets even bigger!

DyneWulf

Definitely! I'll have to give it another go.

DyneWulf

Ahh, man, well, thank you! That's all really great to hear though, so I appreciate it :)

DyneWulf

All understandable, for sure!

DyneWulf

Ahaha... That's... an interesting idea, to say the least x33

DyneWulf

Sad to see it didn't work out,for me, money ended up being tighter than I anticipated and with the extra shipping cost to the UK it pushed it further out of my range :(

Naesaki Ashwell

I'm sad to see it didn't work out. After I pledged, I was super excited to see it become a reality. Don't let it get you down though. We love the work you're doing and I'll continue to support your work. *hugs*

GrimFloof

I think there were a couple of factors that might have contributed to the lack of interest. First, the kickstarter was released during a month where you guys were taking time off EA to do IDEKA, so there was no talk of the game in general. Second, personally I feel like the game is still not as finished to support the amount of merchandising you're aiming for. A bit of cart before the horse, IMO. Perhaps work on the game a bit more, so that interest in EA in general is higher. Anyway, those were my takes on it. Personally I didn't back it due to not having the money to spare for now.

bigfootgolem

Shame, this had so much potential. But maybe you'll have better luck somewhere down the line.

Richard

For me it wasn't one I was just that interested in. I love coach but I'm much more interested in getting one for Spencer and Dozer. Maybe it was design as well, something just didn't appeal to me about it. I backed it still because I really would like to see the others happen and I want to give my support. I am sad that it didn't go through, still.

Deckar

I wish you good luck!!!!!))))))

I have other reasons as to why I couldn't participate. Getting a plushie in my messy room would only ruin it. Wall posters and the mousepad holder would get me in trouble, as a lot here are not fond of stuffs like this.

RouvenDesc

I would have liked it better if it had captured the coach's scowling nature. How 'bout a spooge towel? Tee shirt?

Chris

It was a hefty goal to hit, but there were lots of factors as to why (I added it into my post x3). And I'm glad you mentioned that! The wall scrolls are available to purchase. I'll make another post about that shortly.

DyneWulf

It's okay! I'll be trying again at some point :)

DyneWulf

I'll definitely try again! I might have to look at a smaller scale though...

DyneWulf

No money is collected unless the campaign succeeds, so there was no risk for those pledging, It was an all or nothing campaign.

DyneWulf

It's unfortunate, but to keep costs low for everyone, I have to order a large supply.

DyneWulf

I updated my post to better explain that, since... it's a common thing people don't seem to understand x3

DyneWulf

It's okay! All support was appreciated, for sure. I'll be trying again in the future~

DyneWulf

No worries! I understand the shipping outside the US was a bit high v__v

DyneWulf

Nooo, you can never have too many!

DyneWulf

Augh, I know... the overseas shipping is just x__x

DyneWulf

No fret! I'll just try again sometime in the future ;3

DyneWulf

I'm sad it didn't make it, but it doesn't mean I don't want to see more merchandise out of EA! I backed it at 75$ but I think having to get to 9.5k was just too much for plushies. I haven't looked yet as I've been busy, but do you sell those wall scrolls anywhere yet, and are there more for the other characters?

Gaffgarion

Sorry too hear about it i wish i could but i was unable too afford it

Everos

The issue for me personally was the shipping. To the UK I think it was around 20 additional dollars, which pushed the bundle I wanted just out of my price range. Really hoping to see more projects like this from you, maybe on a smaller scale (etsy, etc)?

with the goal being that high I wasn't going to back it unless it hit a certain amount beforehand. Like I don't think there was any way it was gonna hit the 9500. That being said I'm still sorry it did not succeed

I think the biggest issue was that you couldn't order them individually, you had to order them in batches, the price of which, was just too much

Donovan Grayson

Don't worry you're not alone; I can't vote on this either. ;-) I'll just go hug my coach daki now at least I have that for the time being.

Jay Paul Mayer

I was wondering if it'd have met the target goal. 9500 for plushies seems a bit steep

Nxhoj

Sorry it didn't meet the goal, backed it but didn't have the money to back it more than 35.00. I TOTES WANTED TO PLEDGE 90 BECAUSE I LOVE PLUSHIES AND NEVER GET ENOUGH OF THEM!! Sorry Dyne xc

TammaFantasy

Sadly cannot afford it simply :( Abit expensive considering from which country I'm so sorry Dyne :(

Not into plush toys

Valeir

I have way too many plushies already!

Licorice

Plush toys are really just not my thing, never understood their appeal. Sorry to hear you didn't get to your target though!

Raistlin

I'm just not really into plushes.

Konran

would have been affordable but not with shipping

Myles

Honestly it wasn't my thing. I didn't feel like I needed a Coach Grifter plush. I did want it to succeed though. Sorry it didn't!

Nickthulhu

Unfortunate 😭 didn’t vote though cause I backed it! 💪💪
