2017-12-28 18:09:15 +0000 UTCno, "May you have a Merry Christmas and be inscribed for a Happy New Year" is just the long "traditional" version of "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" blessing ... the two holidays are literally close to each other, and thus, in American culture the two holidays' wishings are said together.
