Apple iOS and Patreon
Added 2024-08-14 16:20:15 +0000 UTCHey, folks! Apple is doing some shenanigans, and it's going to impact -future- Apple iOS users.
I don't build for iOS, so I don't imagine too many of you here use it, but it's always best to make folks aware of this.

The TLDR is that Apple is making Patreon follow "in-app purchase system for all iOS transactions". This means that folks using the Patreon App on Applie iOS devices will get charged a fun extra 30% to their Patreon subscriptions.
On top of that, it would require me to change my billing model on Patreon as well. Whereas my billing is set for first of the month, the updated model would mean new members would be billed each month on the day they pledge, instead of the 1st of the month.
Again, this only impacts Apple iOS and New Patrons.
I've heard some workarounds for the future involve just using a PC to subscribe to folks, or just use the browser on an iOS device (and avoid the Patreon app).
Anyhow, that's all I have about this! It's a bit obnoxious, but that's Apple for you.

2024-08-14 19:43:02 +0000 UTCAlso Dyne, I think you and everyone else that use similar paying methods are fine. Your subs are first of every month, too. From what I have read all other creators that have payments methods weekly or only when they make posts will be making a new plan, that will start from November this year, and every creator that uses these methods must change to it by the end of 2025. (Unless any new rules and updates show up)
