THINKING OF OPENING A DISCORD CHAT ROOM

this is BELLUM, so a few months ago i opened a skype channel and only managed to wrangle bout a dozen of you or so. I'd still like a way to be in touch with as many of you as possible on a daily basis.
My question is, there a chat program thats more mainstream and easily accessible?
Seems like discord is the more widely used program at the moment, but just to be sure i'd like to hear suggestions.
