Talking Simpsons Classics - Bart Gets An F
Added 2017-10-31 17:11:38 +0000 UTC
As classic episodes of our podcast leave the free feeds, we're adding them here for posterity, eventually putting all our old episodes on Patreon with the ads removed! And we're starting with the first free episode we ever did (first released October 16, 2015)!
Bart is an underachiever and not so proud of it in the second season premiere. Bart fears he'll get held back while Marge and Homer try to get him used to a life of failure. But maybe a random fact of the Revolutionary War will save the day? Find out in this classic podcast!
^ seconding this comment, logged in on the Patreon page only to see everything from seasons 2 and 3 (maybe 4 too?) are scrubbed from the archive, where can we find those old episodes at?!

ACTUALLY (not to be that guy), Apple doesn't have anything to do with podcast hosting. The iTunes Music Store (or whatever it's called now) simply points people to files hosted elsewhere. This is something I didn't know until I started making podcasts of my own circa 2010, so don't feel bad if you didn't know this.
About the 100 episode limit: I have no idea what causes this, because I've also seen it happen to podcasts outside of the Laser Time Network (like We Hate Movies). The original 1UP feed of Retronauts also cut off episodes after a certain point. I'm guessing that's a hosting plan issue or something? That's something I haven't figured out yet. I just know it doesn't happen with our current run of Retronauts.

Oh! Something else I’d like to note, Chris made a reference to Lisa on Ice stating you’d get to it in 5 years, turns out it was almost 2 years! The original bart gets an F podcast came out on Oct 15 2015, Lisa on ice was out sept 13 2017. Sorry to be that fan but....

FYI: their putting the “classic” episodes from the free feed has nothing to do with them personally, if I recall it’s the way Apple podcasts system works having about 100 episodes at a time. (Correct me if I’m wrong) that being said I do love that these classic episodes are not only going up as night free but also being reposted ala Patreon, I do like to discuss these episodes and see wha others think of them. That (Also) being said....
BART gets an F holds a place in my heart as my number 1 favorite Simpsons episode of all time, for 2 reasons.
First is the fact that when I was in middle school (summer of 2003, to be more precise) it was one of those great summers I’ll never forget apart from Pokémon Ruby & the 5th Harry Potter book, I also got the 2nd season on dvd, 2nd reason and I think we can all relate to this is something Doug walker (nostalgia critic) mentions on his top 11 Simpsons episodes episode, from middle to senior year of high school I was that kid, I wasn’t a trouble maker but i had failing to barely passing grades, along with parent teacher meeting about it. So that’s why this episode holds a special place in my heart.
Something else to note is when I first got this I had a cheap maybe 15 inch tv that you could plug in a DVD player into but it only had one audio channel input (just white, no red) so on some episodes (and this would include seasons 3 & 4) there’d be missing dialogue & music that I had no idea was missing until years later when I upgraded my tv! It was like watching them for the first time again!
Anyways, thanks for all you do guys! I love The Simpsons and luv this podcast m, y’all have also gotten my into watching the critic as well. Keep them coming!

Thanks Bob. Sorry for the, like, suspicion, I guess, but premium internet content has a bad history with regards to posterity and preservation and I love your academic work on this and other podcasts too much to not be afraid of it disappearing.
Good tidings, et al.
Edit: also I appreciate the removal of the ads for this republishing process.

Hi there, we don't control the main feed on Laser Time (Chris set it up), and, as with all Laser Time feeds, it only features the most recent 100 episodes. Note that episodes before this point are still available and can still be downloaded, just not from their RSS feeds. We're putting them on Patreon because RSS is the ideal way to listen to podcasts, and because Patreon doesn't limit how many podcasts we can have on a feed.
And, as part of Retronauts I can tell you that as of this writing all 231 episodes of our independent run are available for free on the PodcastOne feed.

This is fun to go back to, but yeesh, this episode is a LOT of Chris. I'm glad he dialed it back to let other people talk.

Are they doing it themselves or is whatever service that hosts their podcasts limiting how far back their catalogue can go?

As a paying patron I want to express my profound dissatisfaction with this initiative to pull "classic" episodes of the podcast from the free feed. I think it's a bad look and I'm likewise in a rotten mood about what Retronauts is doing over on PodcastOne with their back catalog. That is all.

It's crazy that it's been two years since you guys first posted this episode.

On the historical fact that is Bart's unexpected salvation: If you're ever in the Laurel Highlands region of Western Pennsylvania, I highly recommend going to the reconstructed Fort Necessity, if only to see how underwhelming it is. For something that's actually a really important part of world history--Washington's actions there more-or-less ignited the French and Indian War, which became the Seven Years War, arguably the first global war--it's just a dinky little lean-to set up in the militarily worst location imaginable. The history center there does a good job handling the fact that it's Washington's greatest screw-up. Some nice hiking, too.
