Talking Simpsons - The Mimi Pond Interview

This week marks 28 years since the first episode of The Simpsons aired. To mark the anniversary, we've got an exclusive new interview with Mimi Pond, a graphic novelist and the writer of this landmark episode. We discuss how she became part of the show's earliest days, what unfortunate situations kept her out of the writers room, and her incredible career as an artist/writer in the years since then. Join us as we explore this lesser know part of Simpsons history with Mimi Pond.

Also, if you'd like to see more of her work, there's Over Easy http://amzn.to/2CyIQkA and The Customer Is Always Wrong http://amzn.to/2AY5jY9, as well as her other work including recent New Yorker comics https://www.newyorker.com/contributors/mimi-pond and more on her website http://www.mimipond.com/

Comments

Thank you for this interview -- My only outstanding questions from this episode - did Mimi come up with Santa’s Little Helper? Or was the name and character (and related plot point) provided for her? Did her affinity for animals play a role in the greyhound racing aspect of the story? Is she aware of the (mentioned in a previous episode) letters received by Fox thanking them for awareness, Re: the treatment of racing greyhounds?

I liked the interview but I felt she held a strong grudge against the Simpsons as a whole rather than the people that kept her from continuing on. I think she has every right to be bitter towards the staff at the time but the show has had so much turnover since then that to be angry at the show as a whole is kind of mute. I would love if they brought her own now for a few episodes but it seems she has resentment towards the show as whole that she would decline anything she offered.
