I have an interesting history with MAD. According to my mom, my grandmother was nearly married to William Gaines, creator of MAD magazine, but she apparently broke it off because he was "too weird." He had given her a signed copy of Tales Calculated to Drive You MAD #1 that my mother was forbidden to ever touch. It got lost in the shuffle after my grandma passed away so I have no way of knowing if it existed, but it seems like a strange thing for my mom to make up.
