What A Cartoon! - Beavis and Butt-Head - Substitute/Pregnant Pause

Buckle in, because it's gonna get stupid as we dive into Mike Judge's first TV series (and first massive success), Beavis and Butt-Head. While on the surface B&B might seem like a braindead, ugly cartoon, like any Judge project there's a whole lot more going on under the hood than you'd think, and we explore its many nuances as much as humanly possible! So grab some nachos and listen in as we discuss Beavis and Butt-Head tangling with a teacher who believes in them, and grappling with the miracle of life.

One of my biggest memories of Bevis and Butthead is the incredible mangling of the name of the show by California Democrat Senator Ernest Hollings during a 1993 hearing on TV violence (or something like that, seems like there were senate hearings about TV or music or video game violence every 3 weeks in the early 90s). Quoted by the LA Times: "We've got this--what is it--Buffcoat and Beaver or Beaver and something else. . . . I haven't seen it, I don't watch it, but whatever it is, it was at 7 o'clock (p.m.)--Buffcoat--and they put it on now at 10:30, I think."

My late step-father (he died from cancer two years after my mom did when I was 25 and he was 46) watched Beavis and Butthead when it would air live, and we sorta bonded over this (and RoboCop and Mortal Kombat). I say 'sorta' cause I WAS six in '93, so I mostly found the broad physical jokes funny. I've gone back to rewatch the show and I love it. It's a total time-capsule of my step-dad and mom's generation of disaffected youth and I love some of the smarter jokes in it. Also, man was this a hard show to track down online with all of the music segments still in ;)
