Talking Futurama - A Big Piece of Garbage
Added 2018-04-27 07:01:00 +0000 UTC
The 20th century catches up with Fry as a ball of ancient garbage threatens to turn the city of New New York into a stinky crater! But Fry's 20th century trash-making know-how just might prevent this catastrophic environmental disaster from happening. In this hilarious episode inspired by the late-90s asteroid movie fad, we meet the vile Professor Wernstrom, learn the true fate of Beanie Babies, find out what Uranus smells like, and so much more! Eat the shorts of your favorite Bart Simpsons doll and get ready for another great podcast!
you should!

I'm catching up on the latest episodes, and I gotta say Kat is probably my favorite guest. She always brings it and her sense of humor really fits the show.

Slight correction, Hank said that Susie Dietter only directed this episode of Fururama but she's actually directed six, including one of the series best episodes Godfellas.

I don't know if this has affected people back in the states yet but China has started to refuse plastic waste imports, as they aren't actually recycled, and it's causing some some waves of actual awareness into the general population in regards of waste management. Turns out a lot of our separately organized "recycling" is just picked up and shipped off to China, and not reused or recycled in anyway. :(

Glad you pointed out South Park's toxic politics. As I've said in the past, there's a clear distinction between parody and satire. South Park is good at the former and fails miserably with the latter.

My freshman year of college, I did my best amateur Weird Al, and wrote "Livin La Vida Laundry" which became my AIM away message over the next four years every time I was in the dorm's laundry room. Hmm, that might be the most 2000 sentence I've written in years.

Just to make you guys feel old, this episode aired on my third birthday.

Complaining about an A- as much as Wernstrom does, and calling it "the worst grade possible" is basically 90% of comments on videogame reviews that score the game something equivalent to a 7, 8, or 9 (say Charlie Barrett's 8/10 review of Halo Reach for instance).

I might be misremembering but I'm pretty sure they use iPhone/tablet type gadgets in Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy. Anyway another great episode guys.

I used to always watch the Ronco infomercials! My family even bought that rotisserie..set it and forget it..lol. The food dehydrator one was always fun to watch, or the ginsu knives they always included with the rotisserie. The infomercial that annoyed me the worst were the ones hosted by "Chef" Tony...who wasn't even a damn chef! Billy Mays ones were fun too...or his rival that Shamwow guy who turned out to be a wife beater or something.
-----
My favorite infomercial will always be this though, unrelated to RonCo...the magic bullet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6KNpmRNyJM...it's kinda meta and silly as hell...and almost tempted me to buy one.

The stench magnitude makes perfect sense. It's the log_10 of the measurement of smell concentration in some suitably small unit to handle space smells, so as it gets stronger and stronger it would reach a magnitude of 10^31 easily.

Just letting Henry know. It was DC that added AOL disks to their comics. The only reason I know about this is because it was made fun of in the ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE AND POSSIBLY WORST COMIC Marville, written by then-president of Marvel Bill Jemas. Just to give you an idea of how bad the comic was, the "joke" for DC's AOL deal is that "Oh in the future it will be called AOL Comics instead." DO you get it, do you get it? It's funny! LAUGH, LAUGH DAMN YOU!

my line of the show has to go to Wernstrom and his deflated laugh after he says "and if my calculations are correct we're all going to die horribly! hahaha..ha...ha...ahh."

Good Job, Brain! has an excellent segment about the Mobro 4000 barge: http://www.goodjobbrain.com/blog/2015/4/5/148-take-out-the-trash-1.html

Believe it or not, scientists recently determined that Uranus has a largely hydrogen sulfide based atmosphere meaning that yes, actually, all the awful jokes are right and Uranus DOES smell like ass.

To me, this is one of the better season one episodes. The first appearance of "WERNSTROM!", right? Side note: i once played in a really bad, short lived punk band called Deathclock. (I've also been invoked with other Futurama inspired bands - Sexlexia, and Ezekial's Nasty House. Also really bad. Anyways...) Overall, a solid episode. I give it an A --
