Talking Simpsons - Homerpalooza With Alexi Rose

We're doing one of the most rockin' episodes of The Simpsons and we've got rockstar Alexi Rose here to tell us about how accurate this is to the rock 'n' roll lifestyle! We reflect on how much has changed in the 22 years since, give you updates on all the bands, reflect on 1990s' alternative rock, and so much more! And be sure to listen to Alexi's band, The Y Axes here! http://theyaxes.squarespace.com/

I didn't know about how Courtney Love was originally going to be on there, but I'm not surprised that it was Sonic Youth that would have refused to work with her. Kim Gordon's Girl in a Band was candid about how the band didn't like Love. Also, like Alexi, my first CD was CrazySexyCool.

Though I do realize that this is not the most well constructed episode, I can’t help but always list it as one of my favorites. As someone who has been involved in music both as a musician and an audio engineer for about 13 years now, so much of this episode continues to be relevant for me. It’s because of this episode that I would start calling Smashing Pumpkins one of my favorite bands, which still holds true to this day despite them not putting out a good record in 15 years. The conversation Marge and Homer have in the bedroom feels like every time I’ve explained to my girlfriend that I’m leaving for a month to go on tour with 3 other barely responsible smelly people, to make no money, and sleep in very questionable places. The reality of life on the road is more accurately portrayed as 4-6 people piling into a barely working vehicle, where they drive for hours to get to a new town where they plug in there phones and wait for 4 hours to play 30 minutes to 20 people(if you’re lucky). Now, even though I’m a bit more present that many of my peers, entering into my 30’s I can’t help but already feel a little disconnected from a lot of new music that’s coming through the venues I work at. Though being able to name every member of Grand Funk has won me some cred with some older musicians. Also shouting things like “Clear the way! Performer coming through!” is one of the most fantastic ways to embarrass a band. Most recently, I used the still of Sonic Youth eating Peter Frampton’s watermelon to give to an artist to have a portrait of my band drawn. It is by far my favorite band photo I’ve ever been a part of. Keep up the good work Bob and Henry!
