What A Cartoon! - Spider-Man The Animated Series "The Menace of Mysterio"

This week we visit our friendly neighborhood web-swinger and we have our podcast buddy Gary Butterfield of Duckfeed to help us out! While Batman was getting all the accolades, Spider-Man got his own animated series in 1994, and while it may not have aged as well, Spidey still has great writing and voice acting when the animation budget is lacking. We check out the season one episode The Menace of Mysterio, as we explain  a ton of Spider-History about this particular era in comic books. Hold on to your Spider-Blood!

I remember watching reruns of this show a lot as a kid and I was also a preteen when spectacular Spider-Man came out. I recently did a rewatch of both and while SM:TAS still has a nostalgic place in my heart, SSM is actually one of the best representations of my favourite super hero in any media

Me and my brother always quote the line from the Morbius episode of Blade saying "Knowing Spider-man does not make him cool!", the greatest lie ever said. Also, this show kinda tainted my view of Marvel comics for years. I always saw this as cheaper and more immature compared to DC, entirely because of how much better show like BTAS, Superman, and the Justice League. Those shows captured everything great about DC, a level of quality the comics themselves rarely reached, where as Spider-man and X-Men mainly reflected everything bad about the cheap, ugly silliness that was 90s Marvel comics. Though I still prefer DC, I'm a bit fairer to the old House of Ideas these days.
