2018-10-25 01:20:48 +0000 UTCGarfield is just one of those things that modern kids won't understand, as far as the popularity of the character goes. I was reminded of it when I had kids of my own a few years ago because one of the first things I received as a baby was a Garfield plush (wearing a baseball uniform which seems odd as Garfield doesn't seem like the sporting type) from my uncle. My mom even had a Garfield plush when I was a kid and she wasn't the type to have childish things, but even she wasn't immune. She also had a Garfield Halloween nightshirt that I think she might still have. Now that I have kids though I've basically turned over all of my old toys and stuffed animals to them, what survived the years, and among them is that old Garfield. My son, now 3, couldn't care less about the thing, but I did show him this special this year and he loved it. He's a sucker for Halloween and for at least a week it was frequently requested, but it has subsided a bit as we approach the holiday. It created an interest in the character for him, which unfortunately has meant I've had to endure the CG Garfield show which is on Netflix now. It's so ugly, and Welker's Lorenzo Music impression is off-putting. There's still some dryness to the humor, but it's mostly an inferior product. Hopefully the kid likes the Christmas special as much as the Halloween one.
