That's the story of The Maxx, a slavish 13-episode animated adaptation of Sam Kieth's work by the very same name. Though the storytelling can be uneven, and many questions go unanswered, The Maxx remains an unflinching examination of some very sensitive subject matter carried by ahead-of-its time digital animation. On this episode, Jeremy Parish of Retronauts joins us to explore how big, purple dudes with yellow claws can teach us a lot about feminism.

2019-07-18 01:31:51 +0000 UTCI haven't read The Maxx in probably over 20 years, but this made me revisit the comic. I forgot how great it is, and I love the bold, experimental look of everything. Somehow he can fit 24 panels on one page and still make it work. I didn't know about the Batman thing but I'm going to have to check that out.
