What A Cartoon! - The November Schedule

In November, we're very thankful for all of your support on the Talking Simpsons Network, as every subscriber on Patreon allows us to do this full-time, creating the best podcasts about the world of animation! On top of Talking Simpsons, all November we'll be doing our usual What A Cartoon! podcasts, and you can listen to every episode a week ahead of time and ad-free by becoming a $5 patron! Even cooler is that this month for $10+ supporters, we're offering a brand new monthly movie podcast, and Patrons get to choose the movie! Learn more here and vote for which one you want of our first four picks!

So what animation will we be covering during the month of Thanksgiving? Here's the What A Cartoon! in November schedule:

Robotech - "Farewell, Big Brother" [Patreon Date: 11/5/18 - Free Feed Date 11/12/18]

This anime installment of What A Cartoon! looks at one of the most influential pieces of Japanese animation ever, at least from the standpoint of Western viewers. Yes, it's Robotech, specifically one of the most important episodes of The Macross Saga (not to be confused with the 18th episode of SDF Macross, "Pineapple Salad" which is basically the same story). Not only will we dig into the spectacular mecha action mixed with human drama, we'll also do our best to navigate the very tricky waters of copyright that makes Robotech a sticky situation these days! You can find both original Robotech and Macross on Prime Video if you have an Amazon Prime membership.

Bob's Burgers - An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal [Patreon Date: 11/12/18 - Free Feed Date 11/19/18]

Fox's animation line-up has been good to this podcast, so we figured it was time to highlight one of its most recent successes, Bob's Burgers. The show took the improvisational brilliance of cartoons like Home Movies and married it to the family fun of King of the Hill in one lovable package. And the show has had some great Thanksgiving episodes, so we figured for the week of Thanksgiving we'd cover the show's best turkey-obsessed episode, "An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal" aka "the one with the Totoro Tribute." In North America the show is available on Hulu, and you can get a free 30-day trial of the service on us!

SpongeBob SquarePants - "Mermaid Man And Barnacle Boy/Pickles" [Patreon Date: 11/19/18 - Free Feed Date 11/26/18]

Are you ready kids!??! Yes, it's time for What A Cartoon! to dive into the millennial favorite, the hilarious SpongeBob SquarePants! This first season favorite of the series features the first appearance of SpongeBob's favorite superheroes, as well as a confidence rattling encounter with a food reviewer. You'll learn all about that, as well as SquarePants' long history and his connection to series previously covered on the podcast! You can find this episode on Prime Video, also available with an Amazon Prime membership.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force - Mayhem of the Mooninites [Patreon Date: 11/26/18 - Free Feed Date 12/3/18]

What A Cartoon! is doing another Adult Swim classic, and the network's first true hit: the stoner icons Aqua Teen Hunger Force! The number one in the hood pieces of food are about as anti-comedy as it gets, and you don't need to be currently inebriated to love its hyper-absurd humor. We're doing the breakout episode for the Mooninites, so get ready to throw things and have them explode, because we're doing this as hard as we can. The episode is currently only streaming in the US on the official Adult Swim website

Quite a bountiful feast of cartoons ahead of this month of turkey. And don't forget, if you look forward to even more surprises on top of our regularly planned podcasts, not to mention our first ever What A Cartoon! Movie Podcast for $10+ patrons! Have a great month, boils and ghouls!

I just watched both the robotics and lacrosse versions of that episode. What surprised me is how how close the two were. I always think of this era of localization being a particularly censorious, but robotech didn’t pull any punches with Roy. My only problem with robotech was the added voice overs and dialog didn’t really fit with what was happening sometimes. I preferred macross’ willingness to use silence to punctuate a scene

In the 1st episode of Robotech, you can clearly see the mechs that FASA borrowed for their Battletech game (they used the vero-tech fighters as the Wasp & Stinger). The other two were the Warhammer and Marauder. I can't wait to hear the info the guys have dug up on this one.
