What A Cartoon! - Gargoyles "The Mirror"

Great show, great episode. I love this show for basically all of the reasons I love BTAS and the X-Men animated series. It takes itself very seriously, it devotes a lot of resources to the lore building, and it has style (human Demona definitely woke something in me). Weisman is probably a little sensitive about the BTAS comparisons in part because Bruce Timm dubbed Gargoyles a rip-off or something, because he's that kind of guy. And because Bob requested/predicted it, BTAS had 7 two-parters in its first season of 65 episodes, so about one fifth of the season. There were a few other "sequel" episodes like the return of HARDAC and Clayface. Season two and three (The New Batman Adventures) did not feature any two-parters. I would probably credit X-Men though with the emphasis on continuity. Fox hated it for scheduling reasons, but they had that first season of 13 episodes which were all basically a continuation of the prior episode. And then season two interwove the Magneto/Professor X side-story through-out while it still had some over-arching themes like the Friends of Humanity and Morph stuff. X-Men wasn't the first cartoon to attempt such a thing (would you believe The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin utilized the same in the 80s?), but it's probably the most celebrated.

I don't have too many memories of this show but I've been told that I was a huge fan of it as a kid. While I barely remember any of the episodes, one of my earliest memories is being hollered at for opening up an action figure of Hudson before we had paid for it at K-Mart. Other than that, I loved the passion for the show y'all had, everyone seemed really excited to talk about the show and I think it made for a great episode!
