Your discussion about Lisa rejecting Burns' money at the end of the episode reminded me of a show that turned that trope on its head: Steven Universe! In the episode Drop Beat Dad, Greg gets a giant royalty check from his old manager who nobody likes. Instead of rejecting the money, he accepts it. Being rich didn't end up changing the status quo of the show. Greg still chooses to live a humble life in a van and wash cars. It just allows him and Steven to go on vacations or buy expensive things every so often. Just another way Steven Universe goes out of its way to be different.

2018-12-21 04:02:17 +0000 UTCI’m probably reading too much into it or giving Burns too much credit, the owning of “Confederate Slave Holdings” can also be noted that like pretty much all exceedingly wealthy people, Burns likely inherited the shares along with the rest of his fortune from his (adopted) parents. Like a certain Mad King in the United States, he didn’t work for this fortune, simply had it handed to him while he sat around nursing his bone spurs.
