As a South Carolinian who was in high school in the mid 90s I remember the saga of Shannon Faulkner very well. The response of everyone I knew was overwhelmingly negative. I remember seeing t-shirts that said "Save The Males" and "1,952 Bulldogs and one bitch". At the time I had no strong feelings for it in either direction but now I'm glad that she stood up and dared to challenge the patriarchy. She now lives a quiet life as a high school English teacher in the area she grew up. As a father to a two year old daughter I view Ms Faulkner as a role model for other women to stand up for what's right.

John Keats, according to one of my classes in college, lived quite a miserable life, one of his jobs was to hold down people during surgery. The Urn poem may have been my notion of the poet for the next 15 years, but it is literally escapism. When I watched this episode as a kid, I quite liked it as it was a Kamp Krusty style story, where the kids are separated from their parents on purpose, and they had to toughen up or be eaten by authority, whether or not it was benevolent.
