I pledged just to listen to this episode, and I haven't been disappointed. Though I noticed something on my most recent screening of Akira: the smoke in the riot scene near the beginning of the film is pinkish, almost flesh-toned. There's a great wide shot of the street of this flesh-toned smoke pouring out and consuming the street, a bridge, the crowd, everything. Could this have possibly been a bit of visual foreshadowing to the end of the film when Tetsuo's fleshy mass bursts out and starts consuming everything around him?

2019-05-11 13:51:52 +0000 UTCAkira is so visually impressive I think people tend to overlook just how disjointed the story is, how little character development there is, and how tropey it can get at times. It's the trophy wife of anime, looks amazing, no substance.
