Talking Simpsons - Lisa's Sax With Alex Navarro

Once again we're joined by Giant Bomb's own Alex Navarro, and he's here to lend a musician's insight into this story of childhood. This tale of Lisa's saxophone and Bart starting school is certainly touching, even if some jokes are better than others, but it's all a fun trip back to childhood in 1990 for all of us in this week's podcast. So stop watching WB and listen now!

Was the All in the Family song supposed to be some kind of satire, even though Carroll O'Connor may have taken it seriously like much of the audience? In school I learned that Herbert Hoover was not well loved by the American Public due to his fecklessness wrt the economy. The good old days when 25% of the country was unemployed or underemployed, and the dust bowl. All the fighting men were abroad, while the criminals stalked the streets as described in all those Noir movies. But hey Archie and Edith Bunker got theirs, so f-k off Jack.

You guys ignored the main reason why this episode is so controversial to people, the fact that Marge and Homer were so quick to give up on Bart. A big deal is made about Homer willingly sacrificing his own happiness even though all he was giving up was mild convenience but he and marge essentially traded barts happiness for lisa’s for no other reason then they found it easier. This episode is the start of a lot of the Lisa hate because many fans, blame her for Marge and Homer's so blatantly favour her over Bart. They do the same thing in Lisa the Simpson I also saw a lot of unfortunate implication in your talk about hoe al jean likes to write daughter father episodes because of his own daughters, but given how barts abuse has increased over the years to the point where homer has started to show complete disregard for his life. What would al be like if he had a son.
