Now that we've got your attention, welcome to the first Patreon-exclusive episode of TalKing of the Hill—the podcast with a title so perfect, we just had to do it. (Of course, your votes helped as well.) Now that the business of the pilot is out of the way, this second episode features a common formula found in the series: Hank being forced to confront some aspect of the modern world that makes him highly uncomfortable.
This time around, he's pushed into the topic of sex as Bobby needs to learn about the birds and the bees, and Peggy needs to learn how to teach the very same subject after landing a gig as Tom Landry Middle School's sex education teacher. I grew up in New Hampshire which is often derided as the most "redneck" state in New England, but there we at least had proper Sex-Ed. I would have taken it in either 99 or 2000 so I can't speak to it was at the time this episode aired, but for us it was "Abstinence is the only full-proof way to not get pregnant or an STD, but here are the other options..." The teacher would tell us he needed to remind us about abstinence, but it wasn't the only way. They even had an outside advocate talk to the class (maybe because it would be too awkward for the regular teachers?) to come in and demonstrate proper condom use. She didn't get to use a dildo, but she had a very penis-like wooden sculpture she slid the condom on. She even told us about dental dams and how they kind of take the fun out of what you're doing, but hey, no STDs!
