What A Cartoon Movie! - Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation

They're tiny and tooney, and we're a little looney after discussing the Steven Spielberg series for three and a half hours! Just in time for summer, this month's premium movie podcast is all about the Tiny Toons direct-to-video special from 1992. Not only do we break down the summery movie scene-by-scene, but we also discuss how Steven Spielberg, Jean MacCurdy, Tom Ruegger, and Sherri Stoner headed up the writing of the series, we cover the many awesome animators that defined the show and the film, AND we go deep on the studio Tokyo Movie Shinsha that made this the best-looking Tiny Toons animation ever! Listen now before your family heads off to Happy World Land!

What A Cartoon Movie! - Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation

This movie definitely represents all the highs and lows of '90s WBA in much the same way the whole run of Tiny Toons does. I think there was a consensus at the studio that the Plucky sequences were the best stuff and it looks like it got the most attention. This movie's production definitely overlapped with the first season of Ren & Stimpy and everyone at WBA was absolutely aware of what was going on at Spumco, so there was more than a little influence. (I think Reccardi and Charlie Bean bailed on this one pretty early; Eddie Fitzgerald was still at WB because John K. REFUSED to hire him for the longest time.) "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" is what Babs was intentionally referencing in lieu of "Martin and Lewis". The dinosaur episode, "Rock n' Roar", was from Wang in Taiwan.

Great episode as always! Appreciate the TMS talk at a time where I'm researching the studio's history.

It’s a little funny and likely unintentional foreshadowing that Hamton’s mom says that they don’t drink in their family since Hamton is one of the characters to drink in the infamous segment One Beer in season 2.

I didn’t remember Jonathan Winters being in this going in. That really was a nice surprise. Loved him in It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and Mork and Mindy.

Gracias 👌👌

The song is Santa Lucia.

Omfg Mayo, cream cheese on white bread! 🤢🤢🤢🤢 Also does anyone know the actual name of the Italian song that Baabs is sing the tune of??

Tyler the Destroyer

Oh and answer to shyranger My favorite Tiny toon is Babs! She lights up the room every time she is on! She expresses herself so well and also can be the voice of reason in a weird way she reminds me of doctor who! Lol

This movie makes me feel so gleeful! I teach in an Elementary school and trust me! The teachers sing their own song and want to be out the door first!

Gonna go ahead and start this for anyone who wants to respond. Say who your favorite Tiny Toon is and why. My personal favorite is Shirley the Loon. For one, she's the only animal I can think of in really anything who's animal choice is for the double-meaning of the name. While she's not really funny, the way she talks is pretty cool and they just decide give her weird powers. There's one episode where Plucky is constantly trying to get her help and she ignores him, at one points creating an astral version of herself to toss Plucky away. That's right, Shirley the Loon has a Stand.
