What A Cartoon! - Chihayafuru Episodes 1-3 With SungWon Cho

You've probably never heard of Chihayafuru, but after this episode of What A Cartoon!, it just might be the next anime series you get into! At the request of this week's special guest, voice actor, YouTuber, and anime expert SungWon Cho, this time around we're taking a look at a cartoon that turns a seemingly dull premise into compelling drama. Chihayafuru takes all the beats you love about sports anime, but applies them to a much more obscure subject that should be completely foreign to an American audience: a competitive card game based around Japanese poetry. Intrigued? Listen in and prepare to add Chihayafuru to your Crunchyroll queue!
I was so damn lost watching the first episode of the show, but this was a super fun podcast none the less and I hope SungWon returns to WAC/TS in the future

Wow, it's so cool to have SungWon Cho on What a Cartoon! This was a really fantastic episode and show. Now I'm looking forward to watching all of Chihayafuru with my wife. I hope SungWon comes back on with more obscure anime greatness.

I've seen people say they stopped listening to the show because of my 2h 30min+ episodes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love how Bob and Henry think a 3+ podcast is a bad thing to us lmao

I haven't finished listening to this episode of What a Cartoon yet, but once I heard Bob Mackey say he loves Betrayal at House on the Hill I had to stop to comment. I absolutely loved that game but only played it feverishly with friends when I was in college. Now that everybody's graduated and they've all got 9-5 jobs it's a lot harder to schedule board game nights. If you haven't yet, you should play the Legacy version of Betrayal; it's amazing and really changes the base game of the original!

Sorry for being rude with my “two guys on Skype” comment, I've never thought of this podcast as such. It's definitely yourself and Henry's chemistry and personality that makes me subscribe. Your guests have also been top notch since you lost the regular third chair.
My comment was more about all of the What A Cartoon! anime episodes but I understand you both prefer subs, so clips just aren't going to be featured regularly in these episodes.

We covered three episodes instead of just one at the request of our guest (one of the biggest guests we’ve had on our network), so we wanted to respect his time by keeping the recording at two hours or less. Adding clips to the equation would have definitely made this a 3+ hour recording. (Also, I hope it isn’t just our clips that elevate us above “two guys on Skype”!)

I watched the dub of this show and in regards to your question on how they handled the poems, they are all still spoken in Japanese with subtitles at the top of the screen.
I know you guys prefer the subs in anime but it does always seem a bit different when there is an episode of What A Cartoon! without any clips in it, as I always think the clips help to elevate your podcast from some of the other "two guys on Skype" type shows. I know your time is limited but if a dub is available it would be good if clips could be included.
