Another nude 90s episode was an episode of Nightmare Ned called Dapper Dan.

While I enjoyed this special a lot (even as someone who TBH only somewhat remembers Rocko from a young age), I'll note that "actually I'm just not great at dealing with change" is a way I've personally seen transphobic parents veil denying their kids identity for years and then acting like they're the put upon one when called on it. So that bit with Ed Bighead hit a bit of a personal nerve. Otherwise loved it and the portrayal of Rachel was generally pretty great.

I was SO not expecting this to have a pretty serious & important message about accepting change, nor that it would be exemplified through a character from the old show being trans, and this damn special brought me on the verge of tears as a result

So, I'm trans and I loved this movie/special. Is it a little too easy and quick for people to accept Rachel? Sure it is, but they only have so much time to resolve the plot, and it feels good hearing childhood favorites say "Cool!" in response to someone coming out. This special was actually relatable because my mother had trouble with my transition. Not in a transphobic way, but because she also has trouble keeping up with changes in the world. In reality, it can take a few years for parents to adjust to new pronouns, even if they really are trying. Although some parents really are like Bev. My dad was accepting like her. It's definitely not reflective of most trans people's lives, but there have been a lot of downer trans stories. It's time we had sweeter things like this to hang on to and to hopefully encourage others to be more accepting as much as it can as a 25 year old IP. Thank you so much for doing this one guys!

Also the slipping on a banana peel has to do with the Big Mike's which had a more slimey peel Also it's what the artificial banana flavor was based on Sadly the big Mike's is no longer around

I didn’t catch this until listening to the podcast, but I think it may be intentional. Bev’s comment about The Fatheads not being aired anymore because it’s SD might be a reference to how Rocko reruns air now. TeenNick is the only channel that Nickelodeon runs Rocko and similar era Nicktoons on. The channel for a lot of people myself included is only SD since it is like a 3rd tier Nick channel. The old Nicktoons may be getting similar treatment to the pre-HD Simpsons episodes that a lot of local stations don’t seem to run anymore.

So delighted that you noted the Charlie Adler / Harvey Fierstein connection. My boyfriend sometimes talks in a particular voice and I’ll ask “why are you talking like Harvey Fierstein?” And he’ll say “It’s Bev Bighead; who’s Harvey Fierstein?” And now I know that we’re both right!

Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie did air at least once on regular tv. It premiered on Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, and TeenNick at the same time on Black Friday evening 2017 at the same time. NickSplat which is now NickRewind is a programming block in the middle of the night on TeenNick that airs reruns of shows from the 90’s Nicktoons era. NickSplat was airing marathon blocks of the entire Hey Arnold! series leading up to the premier. I only know this confusing branding nightmare because I still have cable due to internet/tv/cellphone bundling. Assuming Netflix isn’t possible, after the Viacom CBS merger I’m hoping they just kill the deal with VRV and add all of the old Nick stuff to CBS All Access. Star Trek plus all of the old Nicktoons might be worth the subscription.

I hear you guys loud and clear about the streaming services. I relocated to the UK a few months ago and it turns out I’ve largely entered a no fly zone for non Netflix and Amazon (whom I try to avoid) outlets and miss out on loads of content- well if legality matters.

Great episode for such a phenomenal reboot. Just wanted to add, Canada did actually syndicate Rocko's Modern Life on YTV around at least '96 or so (at least as far as how I remember back then)

Any chance of an Enter the Florpus episode?
