October is beginning for all the Talking Simpsons Network listeners, and that means it's time for Halloween podcasts! What A Cartoon is doing a month full of spooky classics, plus we check in with the second season of Matt Groening's Netflix series! And that's just the start of a month of surprises, including some cool Patreon-exclusives!

And if you're still not a Patreon subscriber, signing up at the $5 level to the Talking Simpsons Network will get you each of these episodes a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our newest exclusive miniseries, the first half of Futurama Season2! And that's in addition to dozens and dozens of other bonus podcasts! Plus, you get EVEN MORE if you upgrade to $10 a month to get our exclusive monthly What A Cartoon Movie! podcast!!!!

Now, prepare for tricks and treats with our What A Cartoon! podcast schedule for October:

Disenchantment - "In Her Own Write" [Patreon Date: 10/7/19 - Free Feed Date 10/14/19]

Last month saw the second season of Disenchantment debut on Netflix, and we are dying to chat more about the series helmed by Groening and Simpsons vets like Josh Weinstein, Bill Oakley, David X. Cohen, and many others. We'll be reviewing the season overall but also focusing on the episode written by Mr. Oakley, the eighth episode "In Her Own Write." So get watching soon to catch up!

All of Disenchantment is currently streaming on Netflix.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Disney1949) [Patreon Date: 10/14/19 - Free Feed Date 10/21/19]

Originally packaged with Mr. Toad, this classic Disney tale of Ichabod Crane and The Headless Horseman is the perfect length for the What A Cartoon! podcast. Crafted by the skilled artists of Walk's era of production, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow also features an unforgettable song by Bing Crosby. It's a tale perfect for Halloween viewing and podcasting.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is available for rent at places like Amazon (and also in some internet archives if you know where to google).

Gravity Falls - "Summerween" [Patreon Date: 10/21/19 - Free Feed Date 10/28/19]

One of Disney Channel's modern classics, Gravity Falls is the Simpsons/Twin Peaks mash-up we've been dreaming of since 1990. The surprisingly complex series from Alex Hirsch is very easy to rewatch, including the ersatz Halloween episode, Summerween. We'll dig into the lives of Dipper, Mabel, Grunkle Stan, and the rest in this terrifying warning of how gross loser candy is.

Gravity Falls whole series is currently on Hulu in the United States, and there's also a stupendous Blu-ray collection of the whole series too.

It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown [Patreon Date: 10/28/19 - Free Feed Date 11/4/19]

And finally, we close out October with the grandaddy of Halloween specials! First aired in 1966, Great Pumpkin was Charles Schultz and Bill Melendez's approach to trick or treating as only a World War I flying ace could do it. You've got rocks, parties, depressed children, and an allegory for misplaced faith viewed through the lens of a pumpkin patch!

It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is available for rent on digital storefronts like Amazon, but also on some other sites that host, say, the 1986 television broadcast of the special.

A frighteningly strong month of podcasts is coming your way, so I hope everyone is excited to listen! And remember, you can hear all these episodes a week early if you're a $5+ Patron, and coming very soon you'll get to vote on the What A Cartoon Movie for $10+ patrons which will also be quite a scary good time too!!

I can’t believe it took this long for a Gravity Falls episode, but... HELL YES!

Have never seen The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, but now I have a good reason to do it. This scheduling sounds amazing. Can't wait!

Awww yiss Gravity Falls

The Sleepy Hollow episode falls on my birthday so that’ll be exciting to wake up to. That climactic scene has scared generations of children and hopefully will continue to do so, though that depends on how many kids are still indoctrinated on classic Disney. Most my age grew up on the standalone short edit/vhs release in scattered viewings.

One thing I hope you touch on with Sleepy Hollow is how good it is at building mystery around the final act. Particularly when you observe a certain character and the animals and objects he interacts with.

When it comes to the presentation of the Evil Dead movies, I have to imagine that Raimi took at least some inspiration from the end sequence of Sleepy Hollow.

Bennett Billard

sweet!

If it's under 40 minutes, it's basically eligible even if it's a one-off TV special.

Legend of Sleep Hollow is a Halloween tradition in my home. I adore it. Be sure to discuss Bing listing off the easy women of the town in the Katrina song (the picnic). One of those lyrical pieces so easy to overlook.

Fatamatician

sweet, the Great Pumpkin! So you guys don't consider it part of the WAC Movie tier, nice. That means the other holiday specials are fair game during their respective holidays as a slot!
